TWICE IS NICE: Brian Hoar Wins First Merchants Bank 150 – Now 2-For-2 In ACT For 2012

ACT American Canadian TourBrian Hoar of Williston, Vt., held off a furious challenge from Wayne Helliwell Jr. for the second race in a row, leading the final 22 laps to win the Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Sunday afternoon.

It was the first career Merchants Bank 150 win for the driver of the RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge, and it was his second straight win to open the 2012 ACT Late Model Tour season. Hoar now has an ACT-record 35 career victories and holds the early points lead as he searches for a ninth ACT championship.

“I’ve been chasing this one a long time,” said Hoar, who won the 2011 Milk Bowl at Thunder Road. “It’s the first time for us (in the Merchants Bank 150), and it’s a big deal. Anytime you can win at Thunder Road, it’s awesome.”

Rutland’s Rock Station 101.5 “The Fox” to Sponsor Devil’s Bowl Speedway Spring Green

Will also present C.J. Richards Memorial Vintage Weekend in July

Rutland’s Rock Station, 101.5 “The Fox” will become a major player at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT in 2012. The Fox will be the presenting sponsor of the season-opening “101.5 The Fox Spring Green” stock car racing event on Sunday, May 6, and has signed on for the “101.5 The Fox Vintage Racing Festival” as part of the inaugural C.J. Richards Memorial Weekend on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22.

Race fans will be treated to a live remote broadcast by 101.5 The Fox during the first-ever Downtown Rutland stock car show for Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday morning, May 5. The 101.5 The Fox Spring Green on Sunday, May 6 features a 112-lap race for the American-Canadian Tour Late Models, along with championship openers for the Bond Auto Parts Modifieds, Renegades, and Bombers in the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

Former Champion Ryan Keith Returns to Devil’s Bowl Speedway

Pittsford, VT driver chasing Renegade championship

Former stock car racing champion Ryan Keith of Pittsford, VT will make his return to Devil’s Bowl Speedway in 2012 with one goal in mind: Another championship. Keith has purchased a car for weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competition in the Renegade class at the West Haven, VT half-mile.

Keith had a major impact in his previous tenure at Devil’s Bowl, winning the 1994 championship in the former GT four-cylinder division. Keith won the Albany-Saratoga (NY) Speedway title that same year, scoring an incredible 17 total feature victories. A three-year stint in the top-level Pro Stock division at Monadnock (NH) Speedway saw Keith emerge as a title contender and take multiple wins while racing against short track standouts including Kirk Alexander and Pete Fiandaca.

· 109 cars attended the annual Car Show held at Thunder Road

· 46 ACT Late Models participated in practice in preparation for Sunday’s Merchants Bank 150.

· Joey Polewarcyzk Jr. of Hudson, NH had the fastest lap time of 13.069.

· Other fast times were set by defending Late Model Champion Dave Pembroke, two-time defending Merchants Bank 150 Champion Nick Sweet, Lt. Governor Phil Scott, former Rookie of the Year Cody Blake, as well as Ben Rowe, Brooks Clark, Randy Potter, and Cris Michaud in the Merchants Bank Ford Fusion.

Community celebration kicks off Vermont track’s new era

The cars and stars of Devil’s Bowl Speedway are coming to the heart of one of Vermont’s biggest cities. On Saturday, May 5, stock cars and drivers from four NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions will line the streets of Downtown Rutland to usher in a new era of racing at the nearby track. The inaugural Downtown Rutland car show in will be in support of the Spring Green 112, the track’s season-opening event, on Sunday, May 6.
