Barre, VT – American-Canadian Tour Late Model Driver, #97 Joey Polewarczyk Jr finishes in 6th place in the 49th Annual Memorial Day Classic at the “Nations site of excitement,” Thunder Road
Speedbowl.

Polewarczyk narrowly missed qualifying through his heat race and started on the pole for his Consolation race. He ended up taking the checkered flag in the event, which ensure a starting spot in the 27-car field.

Donahue, O’Donnell Take Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic Doubleheader Wins

Barre, VT – Graniteville’s John Donahue and Bradford’s Derrick O’Donnell claimed wins in Mekkelsen RV Memorial Classic doubleheader at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT on Sunday, May 29. Donahue, a former Milk Bowl champion and four time winner at Thunder Road in 2010, claimed the Late Model 100 lap feature win.

Donahue fought his way past Middlesex’s Dave Pembroke in a battle of two Fords on lap 33. The two battled hard for the first 32 laps with Donahue trying everything he could to get by leader Pembroke before finally gaining the edge. Donahue would lead the rest of the way for the most part uncontested.

Krawiec Beats Chaffee in Dramatic USAC Dirt Midget Association Inaugural at Bear Ridge Speedway

BRADFORD, VT – The inaugural race of the USAC Dirt Midget Association at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT couldn’t have been any more dramatic if it had been scripted in advance. In his first time racing a Midget, home state hero and former Bear Ridge Coupe Champion Kevin Chaffee of Fairlee came within three laps of pulling off the upset of his career, only to see his hopes dashed by his teammate for the night, 2010 Whip City Speedway Midget Champion Joe Krawiec of Bristol. THE STORY

Brent Dragon of Milton, Vt., takes a break from ACT Late Model Tour racing to compete in the Memorial Day Classic 100 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, May 29. Though the track is a hub for ACT, this event is a non-points event geared toward the quarter-mile’s Tour-legal Late Model division. Dragon was the 2006 champion of this event. Once again, he will be competing with his own Dragon Motorsports-owned No. 55 car, the same car he took to Devil’s Bowl Speedway last weekend.

Thunder Road Announces First Annual Home Run Derby

Barre, VT – Thunder Road has announced the first annual Thunder Road Home Run Derby scheduled as part of “Kid’s Day” during the Harvest Equipment program on Sunday, June 19.

Kids ages 12 and under who wear a baseball hat or shirt to Thunder Road this Sunday, May 29 and on Sunday, June 12 will be able to sign up for the Home Run Derby drawing at the announcer’s tower. During intermission of the Sunday, June 12 event six (6) names will be drawn randomly.
