No Victory Guaranteed as Summer Winds Down at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
Parity prevailing in weekly NASCAR divisions; NEAR antique racers to visit Friday
WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway has been the site of more surprise moments during the summer of 2014 than at perhaps any other point in its 48-year history. While past seasons have seen one or two drivers dominate a particular division, nothing seems to be guaranteed this year.
Parity has ruled the Rutland County track during weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series events. Through 13 feature races for the headline Bond Auto Parts Modified division, nine different drivers have carried the checkered flag. Twenty year-old Cody Sargen broke into the winner’s circle last Friday, joining Jason Durgan and Johnny Scarborough as first-time winners during the year. Veterans Todd Stone, Ron Proctor, Leon Gonyo, and Vince Quenneville, Jr., have won, as have up-and-comers Jessey Mueller and Joey Roberts.

Ellington, CT: The USAC Dirt Midget Association had the closes finish of the series history with driver Adam Pierson winning the race. In total twenty teams started the feature race.
For heat race one the 11R driven by Alex Rose was on the pole with the 77 of Jeff Champagne starting second. When the green flag waived, Champagne took the 77 down low and into the lead moving Rose in the 11R to second. The battle was then on for second and third place with the 12 of Adam Whitney driving around Rose in the 11R and taking over second place moving Rose to third. Then Jeff Horn in the 1R, who had started sixth, joined in the fight for position and by lap five took over third from Rose. As the checkered flag was displayed it was Champagne, who dominated the heat race, taking the win with the 12 of Adam Whitney in second followed by the 1R of Jeff Horn for third. In this heat race, the 76X was piloted by Karl Fredrickson of Speedway Illustrated who came to Bear Ridge this night to celebrate Speedway Illustrated Fan Appreciation Night.

Jason Colbeth big winner in the DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes Madness event leading the majority of the 116 laps.
Jeff Champagne falls one lap short from the win in the USACDMA Midgets.
BRADFORD, VT – The “super moon” of the night helped to provide plenty of wild action for the fans on our John Poor Memorial night sponsored by Walker Motor Sales Saturday August 9, 2014.
Chris Donnelly the current points leader in the DIRTcar Bond Auto Sportsman Modifieds seemed to be in a bit of a funk of late, but the full moon mojo pushed that funk away. Mike Dunn appeared to be having his best performance of the season leading the 31 of the 40 laps. Dunn would succumb to Ed Patterson and eventually slip back to fourth before the checkers waived. Paterson’s time at the point was short lived as Donnelly took away the lead with six to go and cruised on to his fifth win of season from his eighteenth starting position. Patterson was able to hold onto second, not allowing Gary Siemons who ending up advancing one position to finish in victory lane in third his fourth visit to the lane this season. Robert Tucker and Bryan King completed the top five.

First-Time Winner Sargen Left Speechless at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
Emily Packard wins Late Model Triple Crown
WEST HAVEN, VT – Cody Sargen usually has a way with words. On Friday, August 8 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, though, the congenial 20 year-old was left speechless in victory lane. The Greenfield Center, NY driver from won perhaps the most competitive NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race of the season for his first-ever victory, but was just part of a memorable night at the track. Seventeen year-old Emily Packard was perfect on the night in winning a Triple Crown in the Late Model division, while Robert Gordon, Jake Noble, Jeff Murray, and Kaitlyn Baker were also winners.
Sargen fought for the win from the opening circuit of the 30-lap Bond Auto Parts Modified feature race. He led the first lap from the outside pole position, but surrendered it to Billy Lussier on a restart just one lap in. Sargen fought back on the outside to lead lap 6, then waged a thrilling battle with fellow youngster Jamie LaFountain. The pair officially traded the lead six times at the start/finish line between laps 7 and 21, and many more times through the corners.
