THE STORY
EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. – Emily Packard of East Montpelier, Vt., has a doubleheader holiday weekend of Late Model racing in store when she returns to NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competition at Canaan Fair Speedway in Canaan, N.H., on Saturday, May 25, before heading to Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., for the first round of the Vermont State Championship Series with with Mekkelson RV Memorial Day Classic 100 on Sunday, May 26. Packard finished a disappointing 14th in the season opener at Canaan last weekend, though she left encouraged after having the fastest car in all three practice sessions during the day. After a short turnaround following Saturday night’s 35-lap Late Model feature, she’ll head to Thunder Road, where she won one of four qualifying races for the ACT Late Model Tour event there last month. Barre, VT — An all division practice at Barre’s Thunder Road scheduled for Wednesday evening (May 22) has been canceled due to impending weather.
The practice was schedule for Wednesday in preparation for the 51st Annual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic, which is slated to run this Sunday, May 26. The annual event will begin the title chase for the Late Model King of the Road, as well as continue the point battle for the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stocks. It is also the first race of the four-race Vermont State Championship Series, and will include a special first appearance from the Devil’s Bowl Dirt Modified division.

Holcomb tops USAC Dirt Midgets, Mastic wins First in Coupes
BRADFORD, VT – Veteran stock car driver Chris Donnelly of Piermont, NH Rim Rode to victory on Valley Floors night at Bear Ridge Speedway. Donnelly used the extreme outside lane to blast his way to the front from his 14th starting position, taking the lead on lap 24 from Evan Kingsbury in the 40 lap event for the Bond Auto DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds. Evan Kingsbury of Bradford finished second with former Champion Gary Seimons rounding out the top three. Donnelly also won the Blackmount Equipment Semi-Feature.

WEST HAVEN, VT – Stock car drivers from Devil’s Bowl Speedway will be racking up the miles on Memorial Day Weekend. The track’s top two divisions – the ground-pounding, open-wheel Bond Auto Parts Modifieds and the sleek and racy Late Models – will see plenty of action between their NASCAR Whelen All-American Series home track at Devil’s Bowl in West Haven, VT and in special events at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT.

Barre, VT – Barre’s own Lenny’s Shoe and Apparel has teamed up with Thunder Road to renew the Lenny’s Hot Shoe Challenge Award, which awards extra money to racers for feature victories at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement.”
The Hot Shoe Challenge Award will give a cash bonus of $150 to a Late Model driver who wins their first race of the season, as well as $100 for Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and $50 for the Allen Lumber Street Stocks. For the driver’s second win, they will receive half the amount of their first. Checks and an embroidered Lenny’s hat are given during the pre-race ceremonies of the next event.
