WEST HAVEN, VT – Kenny Tremont, Jr. ran what he called “the longest 50 laps of my life” at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, September 26, but at the end of a grueling night he stood in the winner’s circle. Tremont survived to claim the LawPower.com Slate Valley Showdown presented by Interstate All Battery Center of Rutland, VT and the $1,000 winner’s prize in the opening round of the three-race “Battle at the Bowl” series – the first dirt track race held at the Vermont track in more than five years – before a massive grandstand crowd.
Tremont started 15th and used a survivalist strategy to get out of a wild start to the race, which saw half of the Sportsman Modified field eliminated in a series of multi-car pileups. The biggest crash occurred on lap 10 when five cars bunched up on the frontstretch, leaving Tim Hodge’s car upside down and Justin Comes’ machine peeled open like a sardine can; no injuries were sustained.

Division titles were on the line last Saturday night at Wiscasset Speedway, and the champs rose to the occasion. Point leaders Adam Chadbourne of the NAPA Super Street division, Nick Hinkley of the Late Model Sportsman class, Ryan Chadwick of the Thunder 4 division, and Jerry McKenna of the Mini Trucks were all on hand to defend their lead and to bring the championship home. The weather was warm and pleasant. The crowd cheered on their favorite drivers and watched as three of the four point leaders won their division races. Wrapping up the night was a one hundred lap Enduro.
The spotlighted race of the week was a thirty-five lap NAPA Super Street feature. Heading into the last point race, Adam Chadbourne of the #1 had only a six point lead over James Osmond of the #05. Prior to race time Osmond said, “Chadbourne has dominated in this division, and his car is fast today. I would need to beat him by four positions for me to win the championship. We will have to see what happens.”

When asked what makes the Milk Bowl so special, Tom Curley, long-time promoter at Thunder Road said, “First, the purse is over ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00) to win. Also, for most teams it is the last race of the season. For many, just getting qualified and racing in a Milk Bowl is the goal. It has been billed as ‘the toughest short track race in America’ and for race fans, that has been proven year in and year out.”
