The weather was sunny but cool. The stands were packed. The drivers were ready. It was the perfect opening day at Wiscasset Speedway. The fans watched as five featured races kicked off the 2014 racing season. On the agenda was the group one lineup of divisions: Prostock, Napa Super Street, New England 4 Cylinder Prostock, Outlaw Mini’s, and the flex race of the week was a twenty-five lap Amsoil Nelcar Legends feature.
A twenty-five lap Amsoil Nelcar Legends race was action packed. Fourteen Legend cars hit the track in a heated competition. Defending champ Mathew Bourgoine was on hand prior to race time. Bourgoine said, “I don’t know how my season will be. I am hoping for a few wins. I have come in first in overall points for two years in a row. I am hoping for a third. There is a lot of new talent coming up, so we will see how it goes.”

(Stafford Springs, CT)—When the green flag falls on the 43rd Annual NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler, one of the favorites for the checkered flag will be the combination of Matt Hirschman and the #52 Furnace and Duct Supply team owned by Wayne Darling. The Darling team has won 4 of the last 8 races at Stafford with Doug Coby behind the wheel and Hirschman has 4 top-5 and 13 top-10 finishes at Stafford in 19 career starts. While the combination of the two is new for the 2014 season, they are rekindling a connection that was in existence on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour from 2006-2009.

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Motor Speedway has announced that New England modified racing legend Billy Greco will serve as the Grand Marshal of the 43rd Annual NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler. Greco began his career in the early 1950’s driving the #44 for Sharkey Gaudiosi and he made a name for himself by teaming up with his brother George and racing the #43. Greco recorded over 300 feature wins in his career with wins at West Haven, Riverside, Plainville Stadium, Rhinebeck, Lonsdale, Menands, Stafford, Waterford, Freeport, Eastern States, Islip, and the Pine Bowl. Greco claimed track championships at West Haven, Riverside, and Albany Saratoga.
“I had good times and bad times, but it was mostly good times as far as racing went,” said Greco. “My big track was Riverside. I did a lot of racing at Stafford too but I couldn’t keep up with guys like Troyer, Bodine, and Bugsy because I didn’t have the money and the equipment that they did. I wish I had been able to do a little better at Stafford than I did. It’s a great honor for me to be the Grand Marshal of the Spring Sizzler, I’ve never been asked to do something like this before. I’ll certainly treasure the opportunity.”

CHARLOTTE, NC (April 16) – The best short track racers from across North America will once again be descending on Hickory Motor Speedway this weekend as they prepare for the 9th Annual Easter Bunny 150. Racers flock to the legendary speedway nestled in the North Carolina Piedmont as the Easter Bunny 150 has become an Easter weekend tradition for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model division. Likewise, fans of short track racing recognize the Easter Bunny 150 as one of the sport’s premier races, thanks in large part to the star studded field of drivers the event attracts year after year.
Names like Rowe, Lawler, Williams, Naase, and Grissom have all visited victory lane in the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory. And, until last year’s win by Preston Peltier, no driver had achieved victory in racing’s ultimate Easter egg hunt more than once. But, even with the best the sport has to offer coming to duke it out against one another, it is a home grown product of Hickory Motor Speedway that some have circled on their entry lists as the early favorite.
