Doucet, Burns and Portu earn national anthem spots at NHMS July, September NASCAR weekends
MANCHESTER, N.H. (March 30, 2013) – Whitney Doucet was the third of 15 contestants to perform the national anthem at Saturday’s Speedway Star singing competition at the Mall of New Hampshire. But her stunning rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” wasn’t forgotten by the judges, who chose the 22-year-old from Fitchburg, Mass., as the overall winner of the fourth annual contest put on by New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Doucet was one of 15 participants from across New England, ranging in age from 13 to 69. They performed in front of a celebrity lineup of judges, including Dan Nelson, director of northeast promotion for RCA Records; legendary NASCAR pit reporter Dick Berggren; and WOKQ 97.5 FM morning wake-up show host Karen Kiley. Mark Ericson, who co-hosts WOKQ’s “Morning Waking Crew with Mark and 2K” show with Kiley, served as the emcee.

THE STORY
WESTBROOK, Maine – John Peters of Westbrook, Maine, begins his season when the Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour kicks off its 2013 campaign with a 25-lap feature event at the Wiscasset Speedway in Wiscasset, Maine, on Saturday, April 6. Peters, who made his series debut last September at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, will attempt to earn Rookie of the Year honors in his first full season on Tour. Last year, Peters entered an exhibition race at Wiscasset in the No. 51 Digby’s Variety/Cash For Clunkers Coupe and finished fifth in that event.

Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway Race Preview
THE STORY
FORT KENT, Maine – Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, and Brad Keselowski Racing head to the historic Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn., for the inaugural race of the Southern Super Series on Saturday, April 6. Theriault, who hasn’t finished worse than sixth in any of his last three Super Late Model races this spring, will pilot the BKR No. 29 Checkered Flag Foundation Ford Fusion in the 125-lap event on the banked .596-mile oval. After winning at Dillon Motor Speedway in Dillon, S.C., Theriault finished second the next week at Myrtle Beach Speedway to take over the PASS South Series points lead. MANCHESTER, Maine – Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine, makes his third consecutive Dirty Dozen Cup start in a JR Motorsports Late Model this Saturday, April 6, in the Southern National Twin 100s at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, N.C. The 14-year-old Lanpher posted his first career Top-5 last time out in the No. 8 JRM Chevrolet for the team owned by NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. In four total starts for JR Motorsports, Lanpher hasn’t finished worse than 12th in the 26-car fields, with finishes of sixth and fifth, respectively, in his last two outings. The Dirty Dozen Cup consists of 12 races – six each at Southern National and Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia.

Packard Joins Search For Bone Marrow Donors
Emily Packard Motorsports, ‘Be The Match’ Teaming Up At Berlin Mall
EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. – Emily Packard and Emily Packard Motorsports will join the Marrow Donor Program at Rutland Regional Medical Center for a bone marrow drive at the Berlin Mall in Berlin, Vt., this Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This marks the second consecutive year that the Emily Packard Motorsports is teaming with program at Rutland Regional, which is associated with the National ‘Be The Match’ marrow donor registry.
“My cousin Alex was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 16 years old,” Packard said, noting the close-to-home nature of the cause. “He’s 20 now, got his transplant and has been eight months cancer-free. Anything we can do to help spread the word, we’re willing to do.”
Together with Berlin Optical Expressions and Berlin Mall, Emily Packard Motorsports is offering community members the chance to be the cure for patients in need of a bone marrow or stem cell transplant this weekend. Registration for potential donors is simple, requiring only paperwork and a cheek swab. No blood is taken at registration.
“These drives are tremendous opportunities to save the life of someone battling leukemia, lymphoma or dozens of other blood diseases,” said Kerry Ellis of the Marrow Donor Program at Rutland Regional Medical Center. “We’re thrilled to partner with Emily Packard Motorsports to help gain visibility for the drive. Emily has a fantastic following in the area, and she understands firsthand the need for awareness about these critical bone marrow drives.”
In 2012, the 16-year-old Packard also brought her No. 9x Northstar Fireworks/Fecteau Homes/GossCars.com/VT Shifter Karts Ford Fusion to the Foley Cancer Center at Rutland Regional Medical Center to meet a family affected by leukemia. The family then attended the races at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in nearby West Haven, where they were treated to some laps around the track in a pace car driven by Packard.
“That was a great experience for me,” Packard said. “It was a lot of fun to spend time with the kids, and I know they had a great time at the races that day. Hopefully, we can continue to partner with the Rutland Regional Marrow Donor Program, adding potential donors to the ‘Be The Match’ registry for a long time.”

Vermont State Late Model Championship Series Returns to Devil’s Bowl, Thunder Road
Four-race series pits each track’s best head-to-head
WEST HAVEN, VT – Vermont’s stock car civil war isn’t over. The Vermont State Late Model Championship Series will return for a second-straight year in 2013, pitting the best Late Model drivers and teams in the region against each other in a four-race shootout at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT and Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT.
With two events each at the high-speed Devil’s Bowl half-mile and the high-banked Thunder Road quarter-mile bullring, race teams will be put to the test in extra-distance events to crown a champion. The series opens on Sunday, May 26 at Thunder Road with the 51st annual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic 100, followed by a 100-lap tilt at Devil’s Bowl on Friday, June 7. The series moves back to Barre on Thursday, July 11 with the Vermont Lottery Commission Governor’s Cup 150 before concluding in Rutland County at Devil’s Bowl’s Vermont 200 Weekend on Sunday, September 15.
