Coming off one of the most competitive seasons in its 60-year history, the Northeastern Midget Association opens its 2013 campaign April 6-7 at Waterford Speedbowl’s Budweiser Blastoff Weekend. Both NEMA and the NEMA Lites are part of the busy agenda.
Defending champion Randy Cabral (Bertrand #47), one of 11 winners a year ago, heads up the entry list. John Zych Jr. (Zych #9), Russ Stoehr (Dumo’s Desire #45), Jim Miller (Miller #3m), Todd Bertrand (Bertrand #39), Seth Carlson (Feigel #71) and Anthony Marvuglio (Bourbeau #38), all 2012 winners as well, will also be back.
The 25-lap feature, slated for Sunday, kicks of a 15-race NEMA schedule. The Lites, scheduled to go 25 laps on Saturday night, will race 17 times this summer. Both divisions will qualify on Saturday.
Zych, the defending Blastoff champ, Bertrand, Marvuglio and Russ Stoehr were all winners at Waterford last year. Stoehr’s win earned him a tie with Cabral atop Waterford’s all-time NEMA win list, each with eight. (more…)

Spring is here and soon Southwest NH’s Monadnock Speedway will be bustling with competitors and fans witnessing the best of the Northeast racing talent that New England has to offer. The traditional Bond Auto Parts Spring Dash 100 will kick off the season featuring one of three events for the Valenti Modified Racing Series on Saturday, April 20th. The special event will also highlight the 2013 debut of the veterans and rookies in the NASCAR premiere division of the Sportsman Modifieds plus Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, Thunder Stocks, Lightning Stocks and Young Guns. All the action will start at 5pm.
The management of Monadnock Speedway anticipates this season to be a successful one as many new competitors will be calling the Monadnock Speedway their new home. The 2013 schedule also offers a variety of racing series venues including the ever-growing Granite State Pro Stock Series and the return of Northeast Midget who have not competed in the last two years at the speedway. Hamlin and Logano carry their Bristol feud into Fontana with disaster
as Kyle Busch capitalizes on it

As usual in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series, the strategy was to try and stay out of trouble at Fontana until the end. For some it worked, for others it didn’t. Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano got into it coming down the last lap when the two tangled and went out big time. Waiting for something to happen was Kyle Busch who seized the opportunity when the two combatants tangled. While Logano was out of his car and waiting for the track crew, Tony Stewart, who was miffed that Joey blocked his efforts, came over to Logano and roughed him up.
With a big grin, a pleased Kyle Busch exclaimed, “It’s a great day for me and I was lucky to get by Hamlin and Lagano. I wouldn’t have won here today unless they smashed up!” Kyle also thought his car was great, as he managed to pick up speed at the end. It was a double-header weekend for Kyle, as he also managed to win the Nationwide race at Fontana, his sixth victory there, while Sam Hornish, Jr., got leftovers.

Patenaude brothers claim Pro Lite finale and Sport title
MALONE, New York (Mar. 25, 2013) – New York native Corin Todd powered his machine to victory in the last Pro final of the season, securing the 2013 championship as East Coast Snocross (ECS) completed its season finale Saturday at the Titus Mountain Family Ski Center.
Todd (Bailey/Hulten Polaris), of Otego, passed Lemieux after the first of 14 laps and led to the finish. Lemieux (Lemieux Racing/Ski-doo) settled for second just a tick over three seconds back, while 2012 champion Danny Poirier (Bailey/Hulten Polaris) filled out the podium in third.
Friday evening’s Pro final was run under the lights at Titus, with Lemieux claiming the win to keep pressure on Todd in the points fight. Michigan native Kevin Wallenstein (Ingles Performance/Ski-doo) stepped up from Pro Lite to run second in an amazing effort, while Poirier was rock solid in third. (more…)

Fearn, Rocco Team Up For Waterford
Owner, driver return to Connecticut track in new Crazy Horse chassis
SOUTH PARIS, Maine – 2010 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion Keith Rocco of Wallingford, Conn., will return to the seat of a Crazy Horse Racing chassis this season in a car owned by Scott Fearn of Wilbraham, Mass.
The two will drive the No. 1 Critical Signs/Mr. Rooter/Fearn Electric Toyota in weekly NASCAR competition at Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, Conn.
“The full season – that’s the plan,” Fearn said. “We’ve really only run about 15 races together the last few years, but we’re going to give it a shot this year.” (more…)

With only a few weeks remaining before the 2013 Granite State Pro Stock Series season opener, the teams are putting the final touches on their new mounts. The first hurdle will be acclimating themselves to the biggest speedway they will be facing this year, as Thompson Speedway holds their first practice session on Saturday, March 30.
This first open practice is the first time many of the competitors will be traveling the high banks of The Big T. Some of the younger competitors will be looking at some of the veterans of the series for advice. Fran Colson, who will be competing in his second season of Granite State competition is a veteran of many New England short tracks, and has a handful of wins at the Northeast CT. oval.

SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY, Calif. (March 24, 2013) – In an afternoon filled with breath-taking action and heart-stopping drama on the final lap, Kyle Busch (No. 18 Interstate Batteries Toyota) recorded his ninth career weekend sweep of the NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races and snapped a 31-race NSCS winless streak by taking the checkered flag in Sunday’s 17th-annual Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway.
A day after winning his 54th NASCAR NNS Series race in the Royal Purple 300, Busch led most of Sunday’s race — 125 of the 200 laps – but regained the lead on the final lap after Joey Logano (No. 22 AAA Southern California Ford) and Denny Hamlin (No. 11 FedEx Express Toyota) took each other out to secure his 25th NSCS victory and put Toyota/Joe Gibbs Racing into Victory Lane for the first time — in 11 NSCS races — at Auto Club Speedway.

WISCASSET SPEEDWAY SET TO RE-OPEN FOR 2013 SEASON

The racing season is upon us again, and Wiscasset Speedway will be celebrating its 44th year with an action packed itinerary. New owners, Richard and Vanessa Jordan, invite race fans everywhere to bring their families and come join in the fun. The 3/8 mile high banked track is set to open on April 6 at 1:00 PM, and hold divisional races on Saturdays’ through Fall Fury on October 5, 2013. Wiscasset Speedway first opened in 1969, and to this day remains the fastest in the state.
This year, in an effort to provide a timely and action packed show, the new management team has decided to split their regular divisions into two groups that will alternate week to week. Group one will feature Prostock, Superstock, Thunder 4’s, and Northeast 4 cylinder Prostocks divisions. Group two will showcase Late Model Sportsman, Strickly Streets, Outlaw Mini’s, and Mini Trucks. Also on the schedule are exciting enduro races, Nelcar Legends, Northeast Mini Stock Tour, The Wicked Vintage Racers, and more. Wiscasset will run a Saturday afternoon program throughout the month of April and then bring the action under the lights beginning in May. (more…)

Waterbury, VT – As the American Canadian Tour’s 28th season shifts into full gear, teams prepare for the opening race on April 13/14 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH. After one of the closest point battles in ACT history in 2012, eventual Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. edged out 8-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar with a victory in the season finale, and will look to continue his momentum at the Lee opener in 2013.
Helliwell will be challenged by ACT star Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., who got his start in full-bodied stock cars at Lee USA Speedway. While Helliwell has amassed 8 track championships at Lee USA, he remains in search of his first ACT victory at his home track. Polewarczyk won the opener at Lee in 2008.
“I’m excited just to get started,” said Polewarczyk. “We’re focused, the car is ready, and the team and I are ready to go. We should have won at Lee in last year’s race. We can’t wait for the opener to get the championship chase underway,” he finished.
