After two attempts at the 50th Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl, racers and fans have received word of a good forecast for this Sunday, October 28th to run the $160,000 event. With championship titles across the region completed, American Canadian Tour Late Models will take the gloves off one last time in 2012.
Two-time Thunder Road Champion Dave Pembroke will take another shot at starting from the pole, with 8-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar as his dancing partner in second. 2012 King of the Road Nick Sweet will take his shot at the 50th Milk Bowl from the third starting position, followed by Fort Kent, ME’s Austin Theriault and multi-time Thunder Road Champion Cris Michaud. The odds favor the top five to have the best shot at long-time Promoter Tom Curley’s Challenge: $50,000 to anyone who can win all three segments. When the first 50-lap segment ends, only one driver will have a shot at the feat, with two 75-lap features left to get the job done. (more…)

Granite State Pro Stock Series Set for Vampire 100 at Monadnock Speedway
Cabral, Baillargeon to settle championship in season finale
WINCHESTER, NH — Veteran stock car racers Bobby Cabral and Bobby Baillargeon will settle the Granite State Pro Stock Series championship battle this Saturday, October 27, at Monadnock Speedway in the Vampire 100.
Point leader Cabral carries a 14-point margin over his closest competitor headed into the final race of the Granite State Pro Stock Series season. Cabral, of East Kingston, NH, scored a win earlier in the season at Hudson Speedway in July and has finished inside the top-five in four of the five series race this season. (more…)
Ben Rowe has never been to Caraway Speedway. But, just like the competitors in the PASS National Series, the multi-time champion is eager to take his first shot at the half-mile high-banked speedway.
Rowe leads the 2012 PASS National standings with two races remaining as the tour heads to the 10th annual Colors Edge John Blewett III North-South Shootout presented by PPG on November 8-10. The Turner, Maine, driver has more than 30 career victories in PASS competition and is a multi-time PASS North Series and PASS South Series champion.
“I’ve never been to Caraway, but I hear it’s a pretty cool place,” said Rowe, driver of the Richard Moody Racing No. 4 MEP Ford. “It’s always fun to go to new places, and the North-South Shootout should be a lot of fun.” (more…)

OXFORD, Maine – Bobby Timmons of Windham, Maine, led the Mulkern Racing effort in the PASS North Series season-ending PASS 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday, October 20, finishing eighth in his series debut. Timmons was part of a three-car effort that included full-time driver Lonnie Sommerville, who finished 14th, and team owner Scott Mulkern, who finished 18th in his seventh start of the season. Timmons recovered from an early spin on the backstretch to post the Top-10 finish in the No. 48x Timmons Machine/Southern Maine Motors Chevrolet, while both Sommerville and Mulkern fought ill-handling race cars throughout the day and made several pit stops under caution for adjustments. “Wild Bill” Fountain Wins Devil’s Bowl Vermonster 150 Enduro
Father-son team 2nd and 3rd; Grant takes second Spectator Race of 2012
WEST HAVEN, VT – “Wild Bill” Fountain survived a wild race and narrowly avoided catastrophe to win the “Vermonster 150” Enduro stock car race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday. The Altona, NY driver, a veteran of Late Model and Modified racing since 1977 who has recently taken up Enduro racing, led nearly every step of the 150-lap grind for the victory.
Fountain’s virtually stock 1999 Nissan Maxima was running nearly three laps ahead of the field when he quickly approached the lapped car of Kevin Sorel, who was running inside the top five with just 20 laps remaining. Fountain swerved to avoid Sorel’s slowing car, but made heavy contact and badly damaged the right-rear corner of his machine. Fountain pressed on, limping his car at half-speed as second-place driver Brett “Woody” Wood of Georgia, VT clicked off the laps, and was able to hang on to take the win. (more…)
OXFORD, Maine – Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, won his first career Super Late Model race on Saturday evening, leading the final 110 laps at Oxford Plains Speedway to win the PASS North Series 150 in just his second career start.
Theriault, the Brad Keselowski Racing development driver, started third in the 32-car field and led on two different occasions. He has made several Super Late Model starts in other series across the country this season, but this was only his first PASS start since finishing sixth at Seekonk Speedway in August. (more…)
A look back to our trip to the Thompson International Speedway during their annual end-of-the-season World Series of Racing event to watch Vault Crew member Jesse Gleason compete in the Limited Sportsman feature, which he won on WS weekend for the first time in his driving career. Also features a new “helmet cam” worn by Jesse during the event.
At the recent NASCAR weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, we had an interesting interview with Ken Squier. He’s now the retired CBS NASCAR booth anchor who helped to NASCAR from a cult sport into main stream from 1978 until he retired not that long ago. Though he still gets a TV gig, now and then, from Fox and the Speed Channel. He’s now in his late 70’s.
Along with his long time partner Tom Curley, they still operate the renowned Thunder Road International Speedway in Barre, VT as well as the American Canadian Tour in the northeastern USA and American Canadian tour in eastern Canada. Not to mention his numerous radio station holdings know as “Radio Vermont”.
On NHMS “We’ve been here with our series for four years. This year we got a lot more Canadian drivers and their fans.” On Thunder
Road, “We’re doing OK not great, though. It’s due to the economy compounded by the rainouts,” he said. This year T’ Road’s marquee race The Milk Bowl also got hit with two rainouts and the track is going to announce a rescheduled date later this week. (more…)
