The ‘one’ is this weekend’s 39th annual TD Bank Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine. Practice takes place on Saturday and Sunday, with qualifying and the main event slated for Sunday afternoon and evening, respectively. Hoar’s best finish in the event was a runner-up effort in the 2010 TD Bank 250. (more…)

Two years ago, Austin Theriault showed up as a 16-year-old rookie with only a handful of ACT Late Model Tour starts under his belt. Last summer, he opened eyes when he became the youngest podium finisher in the history of the biggest one-day stock car race in the northeast.
This Sunday, Theriault and his No. 57 Pelletier Ford Ford Fusion team head to Oxford Plains Speedway for the 39th annual TD Bank Oxford 250 on a short-list of favorites to capture the premier Late Model event in the country. (more…)
The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Models return to the Thompson International Speedway this Thursday, July 19, for their third appearance of the season. Running a limited schedule this season, the Super Late Models have provided fans with thrills, spills and just plain hard racing on Icebreaker weekend in April and during their second appearance in June.
Large numbers of Super Late Models turned out for their 50-lap feature events that offer additional money for the extra distance races. Derek Ramstrom bested the Icebreaker field when he crossed the finish line ahead of Mike O’Sullivan and Jim Banfield. Banfield came roaring back to win the June race ahead of Colby Fournier and Ramstrom. Ramstrom may be on a hot streak as he captured the PASS Super Late Model 75-lap main at Thompson just last week. Brett Moffitt, driver of the #11 Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE) Don Valley North Toyota Camry, won everything there was to win at the Samuel 150 at CNB Bank Raceway Park in Clearfield, PA on Saturday, July 14th.
Raceway Park, a .52 mile asphalt oval, last played host to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East in 1988, so conquering the unfamiliar track conditions presented a challenge for all current series teams. The #11 HRE Toyota team unloaded a fast car and set the pace during the first practice session. Crew Chief Dave McCarty elected to work on race set up, rather than making a mock pole run, so Moffitt’s practice times in the second session were somewhat slower than the first session times. WEST HAVEN, VT – Some of Devil’sBowl Speedway’s most accomplished stock car racing champions will climb behindthe wheel again at Friday’s C.J. Richards Memorial event presented by Carrara Masonry& Concrete. All-star drivers fromthe West Haven, VT half-mile will strap into cars from the track’s Daredevilclass for a special showdown as part of the event that features a 67-lap racefor the headline NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bond Auto Parts Modifieddivision.
Among the entrants in theDaredevil event is Butch Jelley of Andover, VT. Jelley raced at Devil’s Bowl Speedway when Richards opened the track in1967. Jelley’s highlights include sixconsecutive Modified wins in 1969 and the 1975 track championship. He’ll be joined by past Modified and LateModel standouts Tim LaDuc, Jimmy Ryan, Ray Hoard, Lee Nutting, Fred Little,Charlie Brown, Ralph Bruno, and Don Mattison. Together, the group accounts for over 150 feature victories and 10 trackchampionships. The drivers will competein track-owned Daredevil cars – virtually street-legal race cars with only safetymodifications – which offer fans, sponsors, and members of the community theopportunity to race.
“This showdown is somethingfun and exciting that will really bring C.J. Richards’ legacy to theforefront. These drivers are the onesthat built Devil’s Bowl into what it was under C.J.’s watch,” Devil’s Bowl Speedwayowner/promoter Mike Bruno said. Brunoexplained that the event will be run in three parts: A pair of five-car heatraces will each qualify two drivers to the final round. “The cars may not be 600-horsepower Modifieds,”Bruno chuckled, “but I’m sure these guys will drive them like they are.” (more…)

Thunder Road officials have announced that the 50th Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl on Sunday, September 30th, will boast winnings exceeding $100,000 for competitors at “The Nation’s Site of Excitement.” It is the highest purse ever posted for the event deemed the “Toughest Short Track Race in America”.
The season-ending event for Barre’s Thunder Road has long been a marquee for Northeast Auto Racing, but the 50th anniversary will be even more special. The weekend will include a “Reserve Milk Bowl” for up to thirty competitors who do not qualify for the 50th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl. It will be comprised of a two-segment feature event, as well as a $20,000 purse of its own, with $3,000 going to the winner. (more…)
