Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl Race Preview
THE STORY
Brent Dragon of Milton, Vt., takes a break from ACT Late Model Tour racing to compete in the Memorial Day Classic 100 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, May 29. Though the track is a hub for ACT, this event is a non-points event geared toward the quarter-mile’s Tour-legal Late Model division. Dragon was the 2006 champion of this event. Once again, he will be competing with his own Dragon Motorsports-owned No. 55 car, the same car he took to Devil’s Bowl Speedway last weekend.
$20-per-car general admission fan appreciation special for second PASS National event of 2011
PASS South gets back on track this Saturday May 28 at one of the country’s finest short tracks, the ultra fast Motr Mile Speedway, just outside of Radford Virginia. The Motor Mile race is round two of the six race PASS National Championship battle, and series President Tom Mayberry has colaborated with the speedway to offer up a special thank you to Motor Mile and PASS South fans. Barre, VT – Thunder Road has announced the first annual Thunder Road Home Run Derby scheduled as part of “Kid’s Day” during the Harvest Equipment program on Sunday, June 19.
Kids ages 12 and under who wear a baseball hat or shirt to Thunder Road this Sunday, May 29 and on Sunday, June 12 will be able to sign up for the Home Run Derby drawing at the announcer’s tower. During intermission of the Sunday, June 12 event six (6) names will be drawn randomly. (more…)
Thompson, CT: (May 26, 2011) On the 71st anniversary of its first race, Thompson International Speedway hosted 95 race cars in the 6 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions. Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT scored his first career Sunoco Modified victory. Chris “Moose” Douton took a borrowed ride to victory lane in the extra-distance Limited Sportsman event. Larry Gelinas posted his first victory of the season in Super Late Model action.
John Materas of Voluntown, CT continued his early season success with his second win of the year in the Late Models. Cam McDermott of Scituate, RI earned his first win of the year in the TIS Modifieds. Danny Field of Deep River, CT notched his third win on the season in the Mini Stocks. (more…)

THE STORY
Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, enters NASCAR Whelen All-American Series competition when he races in the season-opening event for the Pro Series division at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, May 28. Doiron, who has a career-best PASS North Series finish of fourth at the track in 2010, has never competed in a 40-lap weekly event at the track. It will be his second time out this season with a car that made its 2011 debut at North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Wilkesboro, N.C., early last month. (more…)

night at Stafford, Keith Rocco’s #88 Wheeler’s Auto team has had his car
repaired and it will be back on track this Friday night with Rocco behind
the wheel. Rocco and his crew will take the car to Thompson tonight to
practice and make sure that there are no further issues before they hit the

The 100th Anniversary of the Indy 500 is scheduled to take place this Sunday. And capitalizing on the occasion was Gerry Gappens, the vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH. He was in the Hub earlier this week at the Fours Restaurant on Canal Street, along with three Indy Car drivers who flew into Logan from Indy, in the effort to set the tone for NHMS’s return to an IZOD Indy Car race to be held there on Sunday, August 14, the date for the Indy Car 225. The fastest open wheel race cars will return to New England after a 13-year absence.
On hand to promote the return engagement was Australian Will Power, now a resident of Charlotte, NC, the center of NASCAR country. Power reflected on his recent qualifying run at Indianapolis, “I expected to be running for the pole but my car wasn’t fast at first. But I’m still happy to be in the second row at Indy (starting fifth).” Will drives the Team Penske Honda and is the point leader in that series after he scored two wins at the Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham and at the Sao Paulo Indy 300. The other Penske cars didn’t qualify as well as Power did. Will thinks that his biggest opposition will come from Scott Dixon, Dario Franchitti, Townsend Bell and Dan Weldon. “I really haven’t thought about winning the 500 but if I did, it would be a big deal,” he said. Defending Race-Winners Look To Repeat at Lime Rock’s Memorial Day Classic
LAKEVILLE, Conn. (May 25, 2011) – It was all in a day’s work when Max Angelelli and Ricky Taylor drove their No. 10 SunTrust Chevrolet Dallara of Wayne Taylor Racing to a dominating victory in the inaugural Memorial Day Classic for GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototypes at scenic Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn., last May.
They first hit the track for practice at 9:30 a.m. and, by 4:50 p.m., the veteran Angelelli had recorded his 15th career Rolex Series win with his co-driver, then-20-year-old Taylor, earning his first win in 25 Rolex Series starts. They combined to lead a race-high 95 of 174 laps, taking advantage of brilliant strategy and lightning-fast pit work by the SunTrust team in ending the three-race win streak of the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates duo of Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas, who were essentially out of contention on the very first turn of the very first lap after being shoved off-course and heavily damaging the front of their racecar.
