WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (May 11, 2011) — One of the most anticipated test sessions in the recent history of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East took place Wednesday at historic Bowman Gray Stadium.
Eighteen drivers attended the open test session to prepare for the Bowman Gray Stadium 150 on Saturday, June 4. Current points leader Darrell Wallace Jr. was one of eight drivers currently in the top 10 in the season standings to take part, and he was surprised during his first run on the track. (more…)

THE STORY
Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, looks to bounce back as the ACT Late Model Tour competes in The Big Jab 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Sunday, May 15. Theriault failed to qualify for the Tour’s most recent event at Thunder Road International Speedbowl earlier this month after finishing an impressive seventh in his RPM Motorsports debut at Lee USA Speedway. Theriault made his ACT debut as a 15-year-old at Oxford in October of 2009, and last season he led 29 laps in this very event. (more…)
East Coast Snocross to have strong presence on 2011 NEATV Tour
CHESHIRE, Conn. (May 12, 2011) – When snowmobile addicts finally have to put the sleds away and endure another long summer, there is one machine that provides the adrenaline rush and can deliver that racing fix necessary to get by. It’s known as the All Terrain Vehicle, or ATV, and they’ve come a long way since those first heavy, cumbersome units hit the trail.
Two forms of powersports racing will join forces this summer, as East Coast Snocross (ECS) will have a strong presence on the New England ATV (NEATV-MX) racing circuit. The ECS office trailer will be on-site at every race (housing the DRT Racing squad), with circuit information readily available. The 2011-12 snocross schedule will be available by late summer. THE STORY
Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, New Brunswick, looks for a second straight Top-5 finish to open the PASS North Series season in the Star 150 at Star Speedway in Epping, N.H., on Saturday, May 14. Sommerville, who has joined Mulkern Racing to compete full-time in the series for the first time, comes off a strong fourth-place effort in his debut at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway two weeks ago. Sommerville has never competed at Star Speedway, though his home track of Speedway 660 in Geary, N.B., is very similar in size and layout. (more…)
JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S CHEVROLET – 2ND IN STANDINGS: “Dover is a fun race track. I think it’s a track that really suits my style, and the stats show that. There’s a certain rhythm there. You have to be comfortable with typically the race car at least into the corner; then you have to figure out somehow to make it turn the center, fight forward grip up off the corner to run a good lap there. The rubber, I understand we’re going back to the same tire as we had there in the fall. That tire laid a lot of rubber down and caused a lot of handling issues for teams. We did a good job of working around that. So I’m excited going back. I think it will be a strong race for the Lowe’s team.”
DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 88 AMP ENERGY SUGAR-FREE/NATIONAL GUARD CHEVROLET – 4TH IN STANDINGS: “Concrete has joints in it like a wooden deck, and much like a wooden deck when you don’t treat it well the boards sort of flare up on the ends, and that’s what the joints on the concrete track do. The track gets bumps in those joints, and they’re consistent bumps like when you’re going down the interstate, and it makes the car sort of chatter around on top of those bumps and joints. And, concrete as you run on it gets chalky; it’s difficult to keep smooth or clean. Every time we go out there (Dover) for the first time, the first few minutes in practice everyone is throwing up a bunch of dirt and dust. There is a crossover on the back straightaway of Dover where they bring a lot of dirt in, driving across it into the racetrack. That sort of circulates around the racetrack until it sort of dissipates and goes wherever it goes. It’s harder than asphalt to drive on, for me.” (more…)
