(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway kicked off its Friday Night
NASCAR Whelen All-American Series schedule with 5 divisions of racing on
Friday night, May 6th. Keith Rocco picked up his first win of the 2011
season in the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event, Adam Gray took down his
first career victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature, Matt Galko was
declared the winner of the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature after race
winner Zach Aszklar’s car did not meet the minimum ride height requirement,
Norm Sears returned to victory lane after a year away from Stafford Speedway
in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature, and Don Wood drove to victory in

NSCS Race Recap: Regan Smith pulls of major upset at Darlington
DARLINGTON, S.C.—Nearly three years after a NASCAR ruling denied him his first NASCAR Sprint Cup victory, Regan Smith finally got the elusive win.
After staying out on old tires, Smith held off Carl Edwards to win Saturday night’s Showtime Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway in a dramatic green-white-checkered-flag finish. (more…)
JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE’S/KOBALT TOOLS CHEVROLET – 2ND IN STANDINGS: “With Darlington being a one-time race, it’s tough to know how to unload. I was just in some team meetings at Hendrick Motor Sports, and drivers, crew chiefs were all present, and we’re trying to figure out what we go back with. When we raced there last year, our cars were completely different; technology has changed so the setups are different. The tire that we’re running on is different. We don’t really know what to show up with, and with the practice sessions like they are now and the four sets of tires that we get, there’s not a clear strategy going into the weekend what to do. This is obviously a very special Mother’s Day for my family with it being Chani’s first Mother’s Day. Obviously my mom has done so much for myself over the years and has really raised her boys right. It’s always good to do something nice for her and be able to celebrate that with her. It’s just going to be an awesome day.”
DALE EARNHARDT, JR., NO. 88 AMP ENERGY SUGAR-FREE/NATIONAL GUARD CHEVROLET – 4TH IN STANDINGS: “Darlington is a slick track. It is a difficult track to drive around. It is real smooth, and you have to find that edge. There is a lot of load change like driving into Turn 1 and then the load comes out of the car through the center and then the load increases on the exit of Turn 2. The car just really changes a lot as you are going around the corner, and it can just snap on you.” (more…)
Thirty teams from around the world wrapped up the fifth annual Formula Hybrid competition at New Hampshire Motor Speedway yesterday, with Texas A&M University dominating the three-day event.
Led by team advisor Dr. Make McDermott, Texas A&M were victorious in two of the four events including the acceleration and autocross contests.
Brigham Young University took home second place, winning the presentation and endurance segments of the competition. (more…)
Melissa Fifield driver of the number 17 Allison Legacy car has had a roller coaster ride to start the 2011 race season. After getting turned by a fellow driver during the season opener ay Lee Speedway, the 17 car had to settle for last place. But there is no where to go but forward and that’s just what Melissa did last weekend as she took the checkered flag at Waterford Speedbowl, getting her first career win in the Allison Legacy Series. Waterbury, VT –The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today the criteria and format for the first NHMS – ACT All Star event to be held at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) over the weekend of August 12-13, 2011.
The event will be presented as part of the announced INDY weekend at the region’s largest sporting facility, and only super speedway. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Division will join the ACT Late Models as part of an “ALL STAR” weekend for short track, featuring full-fendered ACT Late Models and the open-wheeled NASCAR Modifieds.
