Thunder Road Car Show and Practice Merchants Bank Weekend

· 102 cars lined Main Street of downtown Barre for the annual Thunder Road car show on Saturday, April 30.

· Seven-time and defending champion Brian Hoar and his Rick Paya Motorsports team claimed the title in the 2011 pit stop contest.

· 47 ACT Late Model Tour cars attended practice at Thunder Road following the annual car show parade up Quarry Hill.

· The fast times of the day were in the 13.2’s and 13.3’s. Much like the Lee USA Speedway practice a couple of weeks ago, a wide range of cars managed to hit that range at some point during the day. In no particular order Randy Potter, Jimmy Hebert, Scott Luce, Matt White, Brian Hoar, Cody Blake, Phil Scott, Nick Sweet, John Donahue, Quinny Welch, Dave Pembroke, Cris Michaud, Joey Laquerre, Jean-Paul Cyr, Brent Dragon, Jamie Fisher, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. all managed to hit that range.

· There were no major accidents during the day’s practice and all the teams are expected to be back for tomorrow’s running of the 13th Annual Merchants Bank 150.

· Class day festivities begin at 1:00pm with the first ACT Late Model Tour heat race set to roll at 1:30pm. The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen, Allen Lumber Street Stocks and Junkyard Warriors will make for a full card of racing.

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Motor Speedway’s 2011 NASCAR Whelen
All-American Series season kicked off with its first three feature events of
the new year during Saturday’s CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler Weekend.
Joey Cipriano won the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature, George Nocera, Jr.
won the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature event, and Kyle Casagrande took
the checkered flag in the 15-lap DARE Stock feature event.
In the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature event, Kyle Spencer jumped to the
early lead from the pole position with Matt Galko moving by Ted Cain to take
second. Cain settled into third with Frank Cardile and Zach Aszklar side by
side behind him for the fourth position. Cardile went up the track and
brushed the wall in turn 3 to bring the caution out with 2 laps complete.
Spencer again took the lead back under green with Joey Cipriano moving up to
second. David Webb moved into third, but he was given the black flag for
leaking, moving Cain into third, Galko to fourth, and Shayne Prucker held
down the fifth position. Webb refused to answer the black flag and the
caution was displayed with 7 laps complete to get the car off of the track.
Back under green Spencer took the lead ahead of Cipriano, Cain, and Matt
Galko. One lap after the restart, Prucker and Aszklar got together with
Prucker driving up and over the left side tires of Aszklar and he came to a
stop in turn 3 and brought the yellow out.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT RACING HERE AT RICHMOND? “It’s a good track and it’s a little bit bigger than most short tracks we race on but the racing is always fun here and its always a great market and the shape of the track is quite unique which makes it pretty interesting. She’s getting a little bit slick out there, and the last couple trips here it has become more slick but it’s a fun track and looking forward to the weekend and getting in the car and seeing what we got.”

Huge Modified field expected for Airborne opener

South Plattsburgh, NY – Airborne Speedway begins its 58th season Saturday, May 7 and a large, possibly record-breaking, field of DIRTcar Modifieds is expected to attempt to qualify for the Della Motor Group “Fast 50” main event.

“We have spoken with several new Quebec teams and some drivers who competed on the CVRA circuit last year,” promoter Mike Perotte said. “Based on those conversations, I think we’re likely to have 35 or more Modifieds for the opener. We’ll have a better idea after the Saturday’s (April 30) practice.”

DOUG COBY SEEKING REPEAT OF PAST SUCCESS IN THIS WEEKEND’S 40TH ANNUAL CARQUEST TECH-NET SPRING SIZZLER AT STAFFORD

(Stafford Springs, CT)—With the Whelen Modified Tour coming to Stafford
Speedway this weekend for the 40th Annual CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler,
one driver who will be looking for a good finish is Doug Coby. Coby is the
2006 Spring Sizzler champion and he is a former two-time track champion at
Stafford, winning a Late Model championship in 1998 and a ProStock title in
2000. Coby tested at Stafford two weeks ago during an open practice
session, and based on that test he is looking forward to returning to the
site of his lone Whelen Modified Tour victory.

Hamlin Dominates Nationwide Race At Richmond

RICHMOND, Va.—With a dominant car that led 199 laps Friday night, Denny Hamlin won the Bubba Burger 250 Nationwide Series race when the third caution of the race slowed the action after Hamlin had taken the white flag to start Lap 251.

A day after winning his own late-model charity race at his hometown .75-mile short track, Hamlin covered the field in his No. 20 Toyota and picked up his first Nationwide Series victory in his second start of the season. The win was the 11th of Hamlin’s career. (more…)

THE STORY

Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, New Brunswick, kicks off his first full-time season of PASS North Series competition with the PASS 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, April 30. Sommerville has competed several times as a part-time fixture in PASS North with his own team, but this season marks his move to Mulkern Racing to run the entire slate. Sommerville has some experience at Beech Ridge, most notably having led the PASS 300 at the track for several laps last September.

Wallace Takes Inaugural Blue Ox 100

RICHMOND, Va. — After a tight battle at the front, Darrell Wallace Jr. wrestled the lead away from Max Gresham for the final time on Lap 79 and held on to win the inaugural Blue Ox 100 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Richmond International Raceway.

Wallace, from Mobile, Ala., gained the third victory in just his 13th career start in the K&N Pro Series East. He took the lead from Gresham for the first time on Lap 55, and the two later swapped it following a restart on Lap 78, and for the decisive time on Lap 79.
