CARQUEST CHAMPIONS FOR CHARITIES DRIVER SPOTLIGHT: RUSS WOOD
(Stafford Springs, CT)—The CARQUEST Extreme Tuesday Champions for
Charities Event at Stafford Motor Speedway scheduled for June 28th is
building in momentum and excitement as the drivers gear up to raise funds
for their respective charities. The impressive field of open wheeled
division champion drivers represents over 50 championships among 14 drivers.
This week’s spotlight is on Russ Wood, the 7-time ISMA Supermodified
Champion, and he will be racing to raise funds for Racing Against Cancer.
“I developed a relationship with Racing Against Cancer when my kids were
racing at Sugar Hill,” said Wood. “My kids did some fundraising for Racing
Against Cancer and they raised 2 or 3 thousand dollars a year for three
years. Over the years we’ve lost some close friends to cancer and Racing
Against Cancer is a great organization to be associated with. Cancer
research has been making some gains, but there is still a long way to go and
it will be nice to able to help contribute towards finding a cure for

Young Racer Uses Patience to Take Win at Dillon Motor Speedway
Dillon SC (4/2) The second race in the 2011 season for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South presented by JE Pistons and Roush Yates Performance Products took place on Saturday, April 2nd at Dillon Motor Speedway (SC). The South Carolina Clash 150 was delayed by one week due to weather, but with no precipitation in the area, Ryan Blaney drove his way to victory lane at Dillon for the second year in a row.
21 of the 24 Super Late Model racers on hand answered the call for time trials. Heath Hindman looked like he was on his way to his first pole position of the year when he turned a 15.622-second lap but Jay Fogleman ripped off a 15.620, earning the pole position for the South Carolina Clash. (more…)
Morin, Muller lock up 2011 titles with wins at Pico Mountain for East Coast Snocross series,

KILLINGTON, Vermont (April 2, 2011) — Veteran snowmobile racers Mathieu Morin and Jacob Muller earned final round wins in their respective divisions and locked up the 2011 class titles Saturday, as East Coast Snocross (ECS) completed Day 1 of its season finale at the beautiful Pico Mountain ski resort.
Morin, of Val-D’Or, QC, took the lead from top qualifier Danny Poirier before the first full lap was completed, then raced away to a convincing victory in the 12-lap Pro Stock final. Red-hot rookie Corin Todd (JAC Racing/Arctic Cat) backed up a pair of third place finishes the previous week with a solid runner-up effort. Minnesota native Matt Piche (Hulten Speed Sports/No. 51) converted the momentum built from his win last week into a fine third-place finish. (more…)

celebration of the 40th edition of the CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler,
Stafford Speedway is reaching out to drivers who were part of the inaugural
starting lineup to be part of a special pre-race show. This week’s Sizzler
spotlight falls on Ronnie Wyckoff, who drove Bill Simons’ #9a “Excavator

KANNAPOLIS, N.C., (March 30, 2011) – Tony Stewart is part of an elite group. Believe it or not, it’s not because of his two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships. Or 39 career Sprint Cup wins. Or 1997 IZOD IndyCar Series title. Or four USAC championships. No, it’s because he’s one of just four active drivers who have won at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway since 2003, a span of 16 races.
Stewart scored the second of his two career Sprint Cup wins at Martinsville on April 2, 2006. It was a rare sight, for since 2003, the only other active Sprint Cup drivers to visit Martinsville’s victory lane have been Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin. KYLE BUSCH – Hoping Finally To Be ‘Top Dog’ at Martinsville
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (March 29, 2011) – One look at Kyle Busch’s burgeoning trophy case reveals an assortment of trophies for his now 91 overall wins among NASCAR’s top three series, which includes 20 Sprint Cup Series wins.
But even though Busch, driver of the No. 18 Pedigree Toyota Camry for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), has more trophies than he probably knows what to do with, there’s one glaring omission – the seven-foot-tall clock that Martinsville (Va.) Speedway president Clay Campbell’s late grandfather and track founder, H. Clay Earles, decided to award his race winners after teaming up with a local clock company almost five decades ago.

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 39 HAAS AUTOMATION CHEVROLET – 2ND IN STANDINGS: “I think the competition is still really close I just think those guys have risen to the top at that racetrack, which is entirely unique to anything else we have on the schedule. I think that, in itself, Martinsville being Martinsville is part of it. The other part of it is the drivers have to really modulate that brake pedal, which is another part of it. You can have the best car there and burn the brakes off of it and finish 35th. I have actually blown two tires out, melted the beads on two tires at one time and blew both of them at the same time, which I thought was pretty cool, afterwards. But seriously, we’ve been good there – we have been really good – especially on Fridays, and we seem to start off a little slow on Sundays and end up in the top-five or top-10. I thought last fall was going to be a good race for us had we not lost a gear because we were leading at the time. I think we have made some pretty big gains to try to catch those guys and surpass them, so I think the No. 39 team is looking forward to getting back to a track that has been really good for us.” (more…)
