NEW ENGLAND MOTORSPORTS SOUTH February 26, 2014

Frank Marratta’s Auto Show and Racearama moves into the Big E in W. Springfield for that second annual event starting Saturday at 10 a.m. and continues all day Sunday. Lots of exhibits from various venues, tours and other related motor sports will be featured.Many southern and northern New England tracks will be on hand to give out schedules and promotional materials.

As the 2014 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season draws ever closer to taking the green flag at Stafford Motor Speedway, the big news continues to pour out of the half-mile track. Last season, Don Wood from R.A.D. Automachine instituted the very first Rookie of the Year award for the DARE Stock division, which was worth a $400 bonus. For the 2014 season, Wood and R.A.D. Automachine have stepped up their involvement in the rookie department with the announcement that they will be providing not only a DARE Stock rookie award, but a Limited Late Model rookie award as well. The Limited Late Model award will be worth a cool $1,000 to the top finishing rookie driver and the DARE Stock rookie award will be worth $500 for a total of $1,500 up for grabs.

NEW ENGLAND MOTORSPORTS SOUTH 2-20-2014

At the Racer’s Expo in Marlboro 16-year old Kaz Grala of Westboro told is that he’s going to race in the NASCAR K&N Series. He’s got a ride with Turner Scott Motorsports based in Mooresville, NC. His previous experience was driving a Late Model at Waterford Speedbowl in CT. Also, the VARA and NASCAR Late Model circuits down in the Carolina’s.

We talked to two time NASCAR Nationwide Champion Randy Lajoie formerly of Norwalk, CT. Lajoie is currently retired and is a mentor to his son Corey who raced in the K&N Series East. Corey had to settle for second best in that series last year. Corey, though, is on the payroll of Petty Motorsports and is expected to run in a few major ARCA Late Model race for that team. He’s may also snag a NASCAR Nationwide ride for Petty this year if things jell for him. Randy Lajoie is currently the principal of The Lajoie of Seating. He designs custom racing seats and also has off the shelf seats for drivers on all of the racing circuits.

NEW ENGLAND MOTORSPORTS SOUTH 02-05-2014

The only hardcore racing trade show in the Northeast will go green this Friday, February 7 at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel in Marlboro and continues through Saturday to 5 p.m.
All forms of motorsports will be represented from circle track, drag, and road racing to karting and more.
World class exhibitors will be displaying the latest equipment and innovative technology that this industry has to offer. Sanctioning bodies and tracks will be available to inform competitors about the coming season.

Some of the tracks that will be there include; Thompson Motorsports Park, Star Speedway, Lee USA Speedway, and the Valenti Modified Racing Series. Among the various tours are; USAC DMA Midgets, Pro 4 Modifieds, New England Truck Series, Granite State Mini Sprints, NELCAR Legends and NEMA Midgets. Also the New England Region SCCA and F1 Boston in Braintree and F1 Outdoors in E. Bridgewater.

NEW ENGLAND MOTORSPORTS SOUTH 01-23-2014

Stafford Motor Speedway’s DARE Stock division has been the starting grounds for future track champions like Woody Pitkat, Cory Casagrande, Kevin Gambacorta, Josh Wood, and Tony Membrino, Jr. This season third generation racer Nikki Chambrello will make her Stafford debut with dreams of one day joining her Uncle Pat, Jr. as a Stafford track champion.

Chambrello’s grandfather Pat, Sr. drove Street Stocks at Plainville Stadium and her Uncle Pat, Jr. is the 1981 and 1982 track champion at Stafford in the Street Stock division. Pat, Jr. also raced in the SK Modified® division at SMS from 1983-1993 with Nikki’s father Joe serving as crew chief and engine builder. As Nikki prepares to make her Stafford debut, she has a wealth of experience surrounding her that should ease her transition from quarter midgets into the DARE Stock division. In addition to Pat, Jr., Nikki has been getting advice from Ed Flemke, Jr. and Reggie Ruggiero as well as Kris Fluckiger, whose car her family purchased for the 2014 season.

NEW ENGLAND MOTORSPORTS SOUTH 12-12-2013

Millis’ Tommy Barrett will get the opportunity to drive the Chris Our Modified on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour in 2014. He was supposed to be at the wheel the second team car. But with the departure of Mike Stefanik from the team Barrett was in the right spot and inherited that top ride.

The plan is to start the 2014 season off at Daytona International Speedway where Barrett will be competing in the 2nd Annual Battle of the Beach in mid-February. Also, the team will also compete at in the nearby New Smyrna Speedway World Series which will include a number of Modified Tour type events.
