July 17th is the date, Seekonk Speedway the place. With $10,000 guaranteed to the winner, this has become “A can’t miss” event for the top modified drivers in the region, making it one of the highest paying modified races in the Northeast.
This open competition event draws some of the best teams from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series, Valenti Modified Racing Series, Race of Champion Modifieds, and local racers from PA, NY, and NH. The rules are opened so competitors from any of these series, or even the SK® Modifieds from CT can compete and have an equal chance at winning.
In the eight previous showings, there has been only one repeat winner, Matt Hirschman. Donny Lia was the inaugural winner, with Kirk Alexander, Vinny Annarummo, Chris Pasteryak, Todd Annarummo, and Doug Coby. Matt is the defending winner of this event.

Eighteen-year old Tommy Barrett Jr, of Millis, Mass, notched his first win of the season Friday night winning the Valenti Modified Racing Series 80-lap feature race at Stafford Motor Speedway, Stafford, CT. The win, Barrett’s fourth series victory, makes him the first driver to repeat at Stafford.

This week starting on Thursday through Sunday is the first annual Mello Yello NHRA National at the New England Dragway in Epping, NH. It’s the first time since the early 70’s since that series has made an appearance at NED. All of the top names in several pro classes will be in action including Funny Car standout John Force. Also competing in that class is Bob Tasca, III of Cranston, RI. Qualifying goes Friday, Eliminations Saturday and the Finals go Sunday.

Louie Mechalides, of Tyngsboro, MA, took the lead on lap 51 and went on to win his second consecutive “Seekonk 100” Saturday night, June 8, at Seekonk (MA) Speedway. Mechalides captured the June event last season.

Ryan Preece, John Studley, Rick Gentes, Scott Sundeen and Eric Bourgeois earned NASCAR Whelen All-American Series victories in the kick-off of the Thursday Night Thompson Thunder (TNTT) program at Thompson Speedway.
