Dwight Jarvis Thrills Monadnock Fans With VMRS Victory

wer1Winchester, NH. – It didn’t have the dramatic finish like last weeks race at Seekonk, but it had the same result, a large vocal crowd greeting the race winner, this time fan favorite 41-year veteran Dwight Jarvis, when he exited his race car. Jarvis had just won the annual Valenti Modified Racing Series sanctioned ‘Victor Johnson Memorial 100’ and the Monadnock Speedway crowd let him know they liked what they saw.

vmrslogo1Canaan, NH. – Sitting at a desk Tuesday afternoon looking over notes saved in case he needed to refer to them one day, Kirk Alexander, the Valenti Modified Racing Series all-time winner at 31 victories, was trying to find the right set-up, the magic that worked for him so many times in the past, the magic he hopes he can create again when he climbs into the John Corliss owned, Trader John Guns sponsored, # 88 modified race car, on Saturday night, April 19, at Monadnock Speedway, Winchester, New Hampshire.

Alexander, of W. Swanzey, NH., will be filling the seat of long-time archrival Jim Boniface who is battling a courageous fight with cancer. It’s a situation Alexander knows all to well. He lost a brother to the disease in 2008.

Pennink Wins VMRS Title / Barrett Goes Back To Back At Lee

VMRSLee, NH. – Tommy Barrett Jr, of Millis, MA, made a tire swap during a lap-55 caution period, then took the lead on lap-91, and went on to win his second consecutive Valenti Modified Racing Series sanctioned ‘Laticrete 100’at Lee USA Speedway Sunday afternoon.

Barrett becomes the first series driver to repeat victory at the New Hampshire tracks 26th annual ‘Oktoberfest’ program. He won last October’s race.

Matt Mead took the lead from the start and was the class of the field until Steve Masse rolled by on lap 55. Masse fast became the pace setter until Barrett reeled him in and passed Masse with 9-laps remaining. Barrett’s win, his third this season, is his 6th career VMRS victory.

Rocco Rocks At Waterford; Scores Second VMRS Win

Waterford, CT. – Meriden, CT’s, Keith Rocco drove to victory Saturday night, August 10, winning the 100-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series feature at Waterford Speedbowl, Waterford. CT.

The win was Rocco’s second VMRS victory in 10 starts. His first was two years ago at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Rocco started fifth in a 26-car field, took the lead on lap eight from Chris Pasteryak, of Lisbon, CT., and was never headed. Rocco twice developed full straightaway leads only to be slowed by caution flags for minor spins or crashes.

Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA., made another late race charge from his 17th starting spot to finish runner-up.

Pasteryak enjoyed another strong third place finish. The two-time series champion never ran outside the top five.

Tommy Barrett, of Millis, MA, and 40-year veteran Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, VT, rounded out the top five finish. Barrett started sixth, and Jarvis came from 20th.
