WITH ‘SHEDIAC SHAKEDOWN INVITATIONALS’

(Shediac, N.B.) — The Centre for Speed, Atlantic Canada’s Super Speedway and “Metro Moncton’s Playground of Power”, will kick off its 2010 stock car racing season
with the ‘Shediac Shakedown Invitational 50’s on Sunday, May 23 at 2:00 p.m., the first of 18 stock car racing events to be presented at the CFS during 2010.

Sunday’s event will feature CFS championship points racing, including bonus points for all competitors and free admission for all drivers, in the four regular divisions of Super Sportsman, Shediac Sportsman (formerly Street Stock class), as well as the 4-cylinder Mini Stocks and Four Fun divisions.

Dan Bourque (#15) from Grande-Digue will be back to defend his 2009 Super Sportsman championship along with a number of Super Sportsman competitors from throughout southeastern New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. In the new ‘Shediac Sportsman’ division, Victor Vienneau (#03) of Cocagne will have his hands full in defending his 2009 Street Stock title against a number of new and regular competitors from throughout the region.

The very competitive Mini-Stock division title will be up for grabs as 2009 Champ Bob Prosser (#5) of Turtle Creek has take a year away from racing in 2010. In the Four Fun division, it’s also anyone’s guess who will come out on top when the final checkered flag flies as 2009 Champ Mike Weagle (#60) of Petitcodiac will be moving up to the Mini Stock division.

The majority of this year’s CFS stock car events will
be held on Sunday afternoons starting at 2:00 p.m. while a number of events in July and August are scheduled on Saturday evenings.

In addition, the CFS has extended all regular feature events to 35 laps, has added ‘Dash races’ for all divisions and also added a number of “Full Contact” features to some of its weekly points championship events for those who would like

“Rock ‘em Sock ’em” racing action. It all translates into more racing action for our fans’ enjoyment!

Apart from its points championship stock car racing events in 2010, the CENTRE will also host four Maritime Sportsman Super Series events, the highly anticipated MONSTER TRUCK MAYHEM and Demolition Derby event on July 11th, as well as the Atlantic Stock Car Championships over three weekends in October.

The ‘Shediac Shakedown Invitationals’ promise ‘edge of your seat action’ on Sunday, May 23rd at 2:00 p.m. with admission of $10 for adults, $5 for children 5 to 15 years of age, FREE for children under 5, and $25 for a Family Pass for two adults and two children. Front gates and grandstands open at noon.

CFS urges everyone to check the speedway’s web site or call our info line to check the status of any event before travelling as a rain date would be announced in the event of poor weather conditions.
