WARD GRABS SECOND FEATURE AS TWO ROOKIES MAKE SUPER SPORTSMAN DEBUTS AT CFS

(Shediac, N.B.) — Craig Ward (#02) of Riverview picked up his second career feature win during Saturday evening’s ‘Car Load Night’ points championship stock car racing action at the Centre for Speed (CFS), Atlantic Canada’s Super Speedway and “Metro Moncton’s Playground of Power”.

“I waited ten years for the first feature win here at CFS, so I’ll try to savour this second one even more,” said Ward as he climbed out of his Ron Arsenault Engines Super Sportsman Monte-Carlo during an interview in victory lane after his 25-lap main event win. “This one I’m dedicating to my wife and kids who have stood by me throughout and have had to do without a few things so I could pursue my favorite sport,” he added.

Ward, who started the event on pole, was challenged early on in the feature by Rémi Gaudet (#22) of Grand Barachois who was making his debut in Super Sportsman action at the wheel of his father Claude’s M&M Seafood Grand Prix. Gaudet was gunning for the grand slam after having
picked up his first two career Sportsman wins in the 10-lap heat and semi-final. Unfortunately for Rémi, the transmission gave out on lap #13 of the feature ending his first evening of Super Sportsman racing. It was veteran Bert Cormier (#3) of Bouctouche who crossed the finish line in second followed by Luc Bourgeois (#88) of Memramcook. Martin Landry (#15) of Grand Barachois also made his debut in Super Sportsman action aboard the Dan Bourque’s NAPA Auto Parts racecar finishing a respectable sixth in the feature. With the feature win, Ward took over top spot in the season’s point championship hunt, only
four points ahead of Claude Gaudet and eight points ahead of Bourgeois who slipped to third.

In Shediac Sportsman division action, Doug MacEwen (#40) of Charlottetown picked up his second feature win of the season to steel a bit of the thunder from rookie Don Marcoux (#27) of St.-Louis-de-Kent. Marcoux, who finished second in the feature, had earlier picked up wins in both the 10-lap heat and semi-final, vaulting him nine points into the points championship lead over Tim Layton (#6) of Hillsborough who finished third in the feature after arriving late at the speedway and missing valuable points in the 10-lap heat.

In Mini Stock action, Martin Landry (#00) of Grand Barachois notched his third feature win of the season ahead of Mike Edwards (#23) of Riverview and defending division champion, Bob Prosser (#5) of Turtle Creek. Landry, who has been dominant this season maintained his comfortable lead in the division championship hunt with a win in the 10-lap heat as well as a third place finish in the semi-final, which was won by Prosser.

In Four Fun division action, veteran Eugene Weagle (#60) of Petitcodiac enjoyed a great evening with wins in both the 25-lap feature and 10-lap semi-final to go along with a second place showing in the heat behind Phil Coombes (#15) of Shediac
Cape . Despite an off night, Scott Bourque (#69) of Cap-Pelé continues to lead the points division chase with a seven point cushion on Serge Robichaud (#63) of St. Charles .
