Fredericton N.B. July 2, 2011

On the eve of the third annual FanFest 2011 where upwards of 4,000 fans filled the bleachers at Speedway 660, St. Martins John Rankin made the podium for the first time this season winning the Martins Home Heating Sportsman feature.

The feature was dominated early on by Steve Seveck of Temperance Vale and Danny McNeill of Douglas, with Seveck holding onto first spot through the first ten laps before Seveck’s No. 44S and McNeill’s No. 80 got together in turn two giving Saint John’s Randy Moore the lead with Rankin moving up to second.

Both drivers battled over first through two cautions with Moore holding onto the lead until a caution on lap 27, which gave Rankin the outside line. On the final restart Rankin took Moore on the outside to take the feature with Moore having to settle for second.

Finishing third in the feature was Richard Atkinson of Haneytown. Atkinson’s podium finish was a long time coming, but took some last lap heroics to pass Brent Roy on the outside to move into the top three.
In the O’Leary Auto Group Pro Stock division Greg Fahey of St. Stephen took the second straight feature. Starting sixth in the feature, Fahey moved into second by lap ten and with a caution on lap 11 he was able to close the gap even more before overtaking Duncan on lap 17 for the lead. Fahey was able to drive around opening up his lead and hold on for the final 23 laps to take the 40 lapper.

The RV World Street Stock division saw Roger Slocum of Quispamsis come out on top in the cautionless 20 lap feature. Starting third Slocum passed the No. 4 of Richard Hartley and No. 93 of Chuck Morton on lap two, never looking back as he drove to his first checkered flag of the season.

Finishing in second was point’s leader, Benji Ruff of Carlow, followed by Geary’s Jack Lane in third place.

In the 4 Cylinder division Tyler Seveck of Nackawic dominated the night winning his heat and the feature. Luc McLaughlin of Geary finished third in his heat and second in the feature, while Robert Flowers also of Geary finished second in his heat, with a third place finish in the feature.

The Hanwell Village Mart Bandolero division saw the same top three finishers in the same order in the heat and feature as Dana Hamm-Cameron of Cambridge finished first, followed by Alicia Mowat of Hardwood Ridge and Ryan Messer of Harvey rounding out the top three.
