EDWARDS, WARD AND PRICE PICK UP WINS AT CFS ON SATURDAY NIGHT

(Shediac, N.B.) — Mike Edwards (#23) of Riverview picked up three wins while Craig Ward (#02) of Riverview and Mark Price (#9) of Saint John were respective feature race winners during Saturday night’s Schneiders Mini Stock 75 Invitational stock car racing action at the Centre for Speed (CFS), Atlantic Canada’s Super Speedway and “Metro Moncton’s Playground of Power”.

In the Mini Stock action, Edwards enjoyed a perfect evening aboard his MCS Sanitation Honda by recording a grand slam with wins in the Schneiders 75 lap feature to go along with wins in both 10-lap heats and semi finals. In the feature, Edwards took over the lead from pole sitter Denis Leblanc (#95) of Bouctouche on lap #8 with both Julien Leblanc (#07) of Haute Aboujagane and Martin Landry (#00) of Grand Barachois parked on his back bumper and challenging hard for the lead over the next 42 laps. On lap #51, Landry finally was able to muscle his way outside of Edwards to take over the lead, but on a lap #63 yellow flag, Landry decided to pit with front end damage which he thought was causing his passenger-side tire to deflate. Edwards took the restart in the lead, with Leblanc in hot pursuit and Landry feverishly making his way back through the field towards the lead pack. At the
stripe, Edwards outdistanced Leblanc for his third feature win of the season with Landry coming up short on the complete comeback with a third place showing.

In Four Fun division action, Phil Coombes (#15) of Shediac Cape picked up his second and thirds wins of the season in the 10-lap heat and semi final, but his car faltered in the feature where he finished back in the field. The 75-lap feature win went to Michel Brun of Grand Barachois, his first win of the season, as he drove Serge Robichaud’s (#63) L&M Garage racecar to victory lane ahead of two Halifax-area drivers, Dave Matthews (#99) of Halifax and Scott Williams (#00) of Sackville, N.S.

In Super Sportsman action, veteran Bert Cormier (#3) of Bouctouche enjoyed one of his best outing of the season with wins in both the 10-lap heat and semi-final. However, he had to settle for second spot in the 20-lap feature as Craig Ward (#02) of Riverview picked up his third feature win of the season and now has a three-point lead atop the Super Sportsman points standings at CFS ahead of Luc Bourgeois (#88) of Memramcook who crossed the stripe in third in the main event.

In Streetstock action, Doug MacEwen (#40) of Charlottetown just made it out on the track for the start of the 20-lap feature after making significant changes to his racecar’s set-up and with a little luck, he promptly raced to his third feature win of the season. In victory lane, MacEwen indicated that his crew made numerous changes to his racecar which had not performed well in the heat and semi-final, which paid off in spades. Both pole sitter Tyler Rossiter (#14) of Weldon and Tim Layton (#6) Hillsborough were the early leaders in the main event before mechanical problems caused them to either fade back or visit the pit area for adjustments. By lap #11, MacEwen had inherited the lead with an inside pass on Layton crossing the finish line ahead of Gary Tingley (#3) of Colpitts
Settlement and division points leader Don Marcoux (#27) of St. Louis de Kent.

In Atlantic Open Wheel (AOW) Modified action, Mark Price (#9) of Saint John recorded his third feature win at CFS this season to go along with third-place finishes in both the heat and semi-final. In the 35-lap main event, Price took the lead early and held off challenges from a number of drivers, crossing the stripe ahead of Paul Costain (#64) of Moncton and the hard-charging Joe Hoyt (#17) of Wassis, N.B. In fact Hoyt came all the way from the back of the field after a lap #14 visit to the pit area to pick up third-place hardware in the feature. Costain enjoyed a great evening with wins in both the heat and semi-final to go along with his second place showing in the
feature.
