CENTRE FOR SPEED CROWNS 2012 CHAMPIONS

CFS ended its points championship season for grass roots racing here tonight with a full card of racing and family activities during the MacDonald Buick Kids Gold Rush night. Two touring divisions and three weekly divisions filled the card. There was also a fun race for the kids called the “Gold Rush”, and a chance for the stock car “Mechanics” to give the wheel a try in the Mechanics Race.

In the touring divisions the AOW put on a competitive show of side by side racing with Joe Hoyt talking wins in the heat, semi and feature but at the end of the day it was Mike Raeburn hanging on to take the overall points title for the series. Raeburn, of Hampton, finished second in the feature followed the 75 of Doug Matchett from Saint John. Winners in the Mini Cups were the 29 of James Matchett in the Heat and Feature followed by the 11 Leolin Bordage of St Leolin and 24 Derek Goodwin of Renous. Newcomer Don Gaudet produced a few anxious moments when he barrell rolled his new Mini Cup car during early action but the driver emerged uninjured.

NEMST at Star Speedway: Rookies Swap Points Lead As Cayer Wins Again

8/26/12 – Seventeen cars lined up at Star Speedway for the seventh event of the 2012 Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour season. As practice rounds were clicked through the front wheel drive vehicles showed a definite advantage on the tight Epping, NH course. The track had lots of grip early on due to the high outside temperatures.

After practice the NEMST drivers were gathered for the drivers meeting. NEMST regular Loren Smith won the Tater’s NASCAR Merchandise cash bonus and drew the $90 chip out of the bucket. Teams were given the lineup for the two qualifying heats and made final preparations before lineups.

Emerson Cayer drew the pole for his heat with tour points runner up Danny Field right to his outside. Point leader Shawn Swallow would start fifth in the first heat along with Field and Cayer. Cayer would prevail for the heat win as a strong battle ensued behind him between Field and Swallow. Swallow took home the second place. Mike Parker worked his way through the field in the second heat passing Matt Sonnhalter and Billy Osborne before claiming the checkers. Cayer drew an inversion of 6 rows for the feature lineup.

MIKE HOPKINS TAKES 75 LAP LATE MODEL FEATURE AT SPEEDWAY 95

Speedway 95Mike Hopkins stared 8th in the 18 car starting field of the Dysart’s Late Model 75 lap Team Morgan Racing shootout at Speedway 95 Saturday night and ended up the winner by taking advantage of a late race caution. On the 68th lap, the yellow flew ending Andy Saunders 49 lap run at the front of the field. After Hopkins took the lead when the green dropped for the final 7 laps of the event, Saunders found himself in a battle for second with Winterport’s Ryan Deane who had led for 18 laps earlier in the race and had worked his way up from the rear of the field following an altercation with Hermon’s Phil Richardson earlier in the night. Deane also had an encounter with Richardson later in the race in an incident that saw Richardson black flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. Saunders managed to hold Deane off to finish second with Deane ending up third at the finish. Dean Smart of Bradley came in fourth with Josh St. Clair of Liberty finishing fifth. Donny Blanchard of Bangor, the only other driver to lead one lap of the event, finished in sixth. Hopkins said at the end that he never would have been able to catch and pass Saunders if the restart had not given him the opportunity to catch Saunders and race him for the win.
