Tony Stewart had an answer for the dominant pair of Matt Kenseth and Greg Biffle.
In winning Saturday night’s Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway, Stewart side-drafted and separated Kenseth and Biffle, who had surged into the lead during a two-lap run to the finish, then pulled away for his fourth win in the last eight July races at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.
As Stewart approached the checkered flag for his third win of the season and the 47th of his career, a massive wreck in Turn 4 skewed the finishing order behind him. Stewart’s 47th victory broke a tie with Hall of Famer Buck Baker for 14th all-time.
Shawn Tucker became the first two time Parts for Trucks Tour winner of 2012 by taking the checkers at the Atlantic Dodge Dealers 100 Saturday night at Speedway 660. Tucker took over the lead just before the halfway point and endured a 90 minute rain delay before claiming the win.
“We had a great car tonight and I am glad we were able to get in all one hundred laps for the Speedway 660 fans” said Tucker. “I was pressured by Mike Stevens and Greg Proude and knew that John Flemming was coming hard at the end, so it was great to be able to hold those guys off for the win.” (more…)
Wins the Firecracker 150, takes over the Championship point lead,secures spot in the All American 400
Brandon Ward timed things out perfectly running down Landon Cling from ten car lengths back and then out dueled the youngster on a lap 127 restart to pick up his second career win and his second win of the season. In addition to the win Ward took over sole possession of the PASS South championship points lead and also earned himself a guaranteed starting position for the $22,000 to win All American 400 at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in October.
“It took this team a long time to get their first win in this series, but I’m sure glad it didn’t take as long for them to get their second,” stated an excited Brandon Ward from Anderson Motor Speedway victory lane. ”This win was huge because it gave us the points lead and it also gives us an automatic starting position for the All American 400 in October. John Robidoux picked up his first win of the season in the 25 lap Pure Stock main event on Friday. John followed Randy Moretti across the finish line in second, but after post-race tech, was handed the trophy.
Bill Doyle led the first 6 laps, but was overtaken by Moretti, who led the rest of the way, and held on through a couple of restarts. Moretti started 7th in the field, but was able to use the outside and inside lanes to the front of the pack. Robidoux started sixth, but was a little slower moving through traffic, following Moretti through. The pair raced first and second for the remainder of the race. Points leader Jesse Melberg started 13th in the pack, and sliced his way through the field, moving past Bob Hinckley for third with only three laps remaining. Hinckley fell back to fifth in the running order on the final lap when Jamie Salley slid past. Chris Lima was credited with fifth in the final rundown. (more…)
