Sweet Wins Duel With O’Donnell for Record-Tying Vermont Governor’s Cup Win

(Photo by Alan Ward)Barre, VT – Barre’s Nick Sweet came out on top of a battle with Thunder Road Late Model point leader and fellow two-time “King of the Road” Derrick O’Donnell to with his fourth VP Fuels Vermont Governor’s Cup 150 on Thursday, July 9.

Sweet took the lead from N. Haverhill, NH’s O’Donnell on lap 125 following the fourth and final restart after stalking him for much of the event. O’Donnell made a bid to get back around Sweet on the outside, but came under attack from polesitter Cody Blake with 10 laps remaining, allowing Sweet to drive off tothe victory. Sweet moved into a tie with Robbie Crouch for the most Vermont Governor’s Cup wins of all-time.

sdgdfgdfEddie MacDonald of Rowley, Massachusetts added another page to his impressive New Hampshire Motor Speedway resume, scoring an impressive victory in the AIM 60 Pro All Stars Series race, the first-ever Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model race at the “Magic Mile.”

It was the seventh victory on the 1.058-mile oval for MacDonald, a three-time winner in NASCAR K&N East Series competition at NHMS, to go along with three race victories in ACT Invitational Late Model competition.

asrffsdrVeteran stock car driver Tim LaDuc of Orwell, VT made a triumphant return to victory lane on Sunday, July 5, winning the WhistlePig Straight Rye Whiskey Independence Day Special at The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. LaDuc ended a five-year victory drought and carried the checkered flag in the 50-lap Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli Sportsman Modified race after a race-long fight with Josh Sunn. Other winners on the night included Chris Donnelly, Dan Douville, Curtis Condon, and Jesse Durkee.

DANIELLE BEALE WINS MODIFIED ENDURO FEATURE AT 95

Speedway95Danielle Beal of Hampden brought the 3 race win streak of Milo’s Dustin Lancaster to an end Wednesday night at Speedway 95 as she led the 20 lap Modified Enduro feature from start to finish. While Beale led the first 9 laps, Lancaster, Andrew Crosby of Hermon, Scott Bonney of Stetson and Rhonda Crain of Hermon sat three car lengths back in a pack battling for second through fifth positions. On lap 9, Bonney and Crosby both shot off the track in turn 4, ending up against the tire wall, bringing out the race’s only caution period. Both were able to continue on the restart, but from the back of the field. On the restart, Beale reassumed the lead with Lancaster in second and Crosby soon in third. As Lancaster and Crosby fought for second, Beale continued to lead by about 2 car lengths, which was her margin of victory over Lancaster, who finished second with Crosby finishing third. Alex Runci of Frankfort and Rhonda Crain of Hermon rounded out the top five.
