Labbe wins Thunder Valley National 200 at Autodrome Chaudiere
The VR Victoriaville #36 of Alex Labbe was disqualified from his heat race in post-race tech due to a ride height infraction. This would place him in the 24th starting position for the feature event where he would eventually work his way to the front and emerge victorious. By the ½-way point in the race, Labbe had moved into the 2nd position where he would battle for the win with the runner up, Joey Doiron in the Wild Willy’s Burger #73. Patrick Laperle of St.-Denis Quebec earned the final podium finish with his Lasalle Ford #91.
Center Conway’s DJ Shaw and Tyler Dippel from Walkill, NY rounded out the top-five in the finishing order. Turner, Maine natives Mike Rowe and Ben Rowe were sixth and seventh across the finish line. Chicoutimi, Quebec’s Michael Lavoie ended up in the eighth position, with Curtis Gerry of Waterboro ninth across the finish line, and Bangor’s Gary Smith rounding out the top-ten.

FLEMMING EXTENDS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD, WINS LUCAS OIL 150
(Antigonish, NS, September 6, 2014) – John Flemming went from the back of the field on Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway to the front to win the Lucas Oil 150. Flemming, who won the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials with a 14.272 second lap earlier in the day, developed transmission related issues off the grid and had to come down pit road to get service on his car, relegating him to the rear from his third place starting spot. Flemming took the lead on lap 115 from Shawn Turple (Enfield, NS) and never looked back, taking his second win of the season. Turple ended the night in second, followed by King Freight Dash winner Jonathan Hicken (Brudenell, PE). Hometown favorite Donald Chisholm (Antigonish, NS) bested Craig Slaunwhite (Terence Bay, NS) to take the fourth place spot in the 21 car field.

Geary, New Brunswick – Joey Doiron and the 73 Wild Willy’s Burgers/JBJ Machine team traveled back to Canada this past weekend to Geary, New Brunswick for one of the biggest short track races in the north, the Re/Max 250 at Speedway 660. 32 Super Late Models were on hand to try their hand at the $15,000 prize including lap money to be earned during the event. The event didn’t go quite as planned however, as rain began to fall just before the start of the race on Sunday night, and was pushed back to early Monday morning. After a hard fought drive at the end, Joey Doiron ended the race just off the podium in fourth place.
“We were really loose at the beginning of the race, we made a charge up there but I don’t think we would’ve stayed on the lead lap if we didn’t pit early,” Doiron said of the race, “It was our only shot to win and I think we would’ve had something for them if we had equal tires there at the end, all in all though it was a great run for us, I’m proud of everyone’s effort and we’ll get geared up for Chaudiere next weekend.”

SOMMERVILLE HUMBLED TO RUN FRASER REPLICA CAR IN 250 AT SPEEDWAY 660
BARNESVILLE, NB (August 22, 2014) – Lonnie Sommerville has mixed emotions heading into Speed Weekend at Speedway 660. On the one hand he is excited to have the chance to win his third ‘250’, but on the other hand he is humbled to be carrying the colours of his good friend, the late Scott Fraser.
“The idea came to me in the spring,” said Sommerville, who won the 250 at Speedway 660 in 2006 and 2009. “Not too long after the 10th anniversary of Scott’s death. As friends we will always remember the date, but I was especially struck by how much the racing community, in general, reacted to it this year. So I approached the Fraser family way back then and asked if I could honour Scott by carrying his familiar colours in this race, and at a place that he dominated back in the day.”
