Série ACT Castrol Champion To Be Decided

Déry, Laperle Faceoff For the Title

Waterbury, VT – When the checkered flag drops this Sunday, September 16 at Autodrome St-Eustache, a Champion of the Série ACT Castrol Series will be crowned. The epic championship battle has morphed into a two-car war between defending Champion Patrick Laperle and top talent Jean-Francois Déry who will put everything on the line in hopes of a title this weekend.

Déry started the year off in style with a pair of third place finishes in the first two events, but a stray rock at Riverside Speedway left him with a 24th place finish, and dropped him from the point lead down to sixth. Laperle suffered transmission problems in the second event of the year, leaving both teams behind the eight ball in the early going.

Dany Trepanier Leads Quebec Team to ACT Showdown Win

ACT American Canadian TourDany Trepanier of St-Edouard, Quebec led the Série ACT Castrol team to a dominate win in the fifth annual “Showdown at Chaudiere 200” at Autodrome Chaudiere on Sunday, September 9. Trepanier earned $5,000 for the win plus the Castrol team picked up the $500 bonus for each of it team members with the overall win. Fellow Quebecer Karl Allard took second while Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. was the highest finishing ACT US competitor in third.

Patrick Laperle and Brian Hoar were in a three way battle with Polewarczyk over the final laps but had to settle for fourth and fifth respectively. Glen Luce, David Michaud, Patrick Hamel, Jean-François Déry and Randy Potter completed the top ten.

Trepanier was dominant after starting on the pole with a +4 in qualifying. He led 193 of the 200 laps after battling with Karl Allard early. He broke out to a straightaway lead during a couple of long green flag runs and cruised to victory. Laperle and Hoar both hit pit road on a couple of cautions before working their way back to the front late in the race.

Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, New Brunswick, will look to improve upon his runner-up finish the last time the PASS North Series visited White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, N.H. in the PASS 150 on Saturday, September 8. Sommerville has turned in three straight Top-10 finishes to jump to fifth in the overall PASS North Series standings in the Mulkern Racing No. 48 A.E. McKay Builders/Southern Maine Motors Chevrolet, just 55 points out of the lead with three races still remaining. He finished second at White Mountain less than a month ago in a rain-shortened event, and Sommerville has three Top-5 finishes in four career starts at the banked quarter-mile.

Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, will pull double duty in Late Model competition this weekend, starting things in the ACT Late Model Tour “Showdown At Chaudiere” at Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallee-Jonction, Quebec, on Saturday, September 8, before returning stateside to head back to Spud Speedway in Caribou, Maine, for the Spud 150 on Sunday, September 9. Theriault is one of 11 ACT Late Model Tour teams pitted against 11 ACT Castrol Series teams in the annual 200-lap event at the popular stop on the banked Quebec third-mile. The following day, Theriault and the No. 57 Pelletier Ford Ford Fusion will return to Spud Speedway where Theriault got his start racing in entry-level divisions.

GEARY, New Brunswick – Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, finished fifth in his first career start in the Auto Value 250 at Speedway 660 in Geary, New Brunswick, on Sunday, September 2. The annual end-of-summer Super Late Model open competition on the .333-mile oval attracted a handful of PASS North Series regulars as well as a number of Maritime-based Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour competitors. Doiron won his heat race and qualified fourth in the 28-car field after being among the fastest cars in practice. He led in the early going, recovered from two small mechanical issues and held on to finish fifth after challenging eventual winner Cassius Clark for the lead late in the event.

Cassius Clark wins PASS North Auto Value 250 at Speedway 660

PASS NorthFarmington, Maine’s Cassius Clark is the 2012 Auto Value 250 champion. Clark capped off an impressive SpeedWeekend run to take the checkered flag in Atlantic Canada’s biggest short track race of the season. The Pro All Star Series points leader won the race ahead of second place D.J. Shaw from Center Conway, New Hampshire and Matt Harris from Fredericton Junction.

“Wow what a run, the King Racing team of Rollie MacDonald gave me a great car tonight and I am thrilled to be the Auto Value 250 champion” said Clark in Speedway 660’s Victory Lane. “I love Canada and to follow up the Atlantic Cat 250 win at Scotia SpeedWorld with Speedway 660’s Auto Value 250 this year is certainly one of the biggest thrills of my racing career.”

Clark led 120 laps en route to his victory and picked up 21 thousand dollars in prize money. John Flemming captured the Modern Electric half way challenge, led 72 laps, finished 8th and takes home more than 67 hundred dollars in prize money.
