THOMPSON, CT. Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park General Manager Josh Vanada announced today that Race Director Jeff Zuidema will be returning next year. Zuidema, a four-time Thompson track champion and winner of fifty two races, was appointed to the Race Director’s position at the beginning of the 2103 racing season.

“We are very excited to have Jeff back in 2014. He has an excellent reputation with competitors and officials in addition to a deep passion for our sport. We are looking forward to the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Xtra Mart next weekend and onto the 2014 season,” said Vanada.

THOMPSON READIES FOR WORLD SERIES

ThompsonTHOMPSON, CT. Thompson Speedway is abuzz with activity as the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Xtra Mart nears. With less than two weeks before fifteen racing divisions converge upon the Thompson complex for this three-day racing extravaganza, both staff and construction crews are working at full speed to have everything ready for race teams, fans and campers.

A new layer of asphalt now sits on the paddock area and on much of the renovated 1.7 mile road course that is scheduled to open next year. Construction continues on the huge garage area that will be part of the 2014 track opening and heavy equipment continues to prepare the landscaping work necessary to allow the speedway to host an event like the World Series. Fans will be amazed at the transformation that has taken place since the regular season-ending event held on August 29th.

THOMPSON, CT. The Thompson Speedway has announced that the 2013 NASCAR All-American Series awards banquet will be held on Friday, November 29th. All of Thompson’s five NWAAS divisions will be honored that night with awards going to competitors that finished in the top ten in each division’s final standings.

Topping the list will be the NASCAR Division 1 Sunoco Modified champion Keith Rocco. The 2013 championship is his fourth Thompson division title. He previously won the crown in 2007, 2009 and again in 2011. Multi-time Late Model champ Rick Gentes will receive his fifth Thompson championship award. Gentes is one of only three drivers to attain five track championships. He won titles in 1996, 1997, 2007, 2010 and again in 2013.

NASCAR WHELEN MODIFIED TOUR CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE DECIDED AT THOMPSON

ThompsonTHOMPSON, CT. The championship crown for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be determined at Thompson’s World Series on Sunday, October 20th. After a season-long battle, the coveted championship has boiled down to a contest between defending champion Doug Coby and current point leader Ryan Preece. Preece has a 26 point advantage going into the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Xtra Mart.

Preece has seen his point advantage dwindle in the last two outings of the WMT. His efforts at Stafford’s Fall Final produced a 17th place finish and a 12th place finish at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Prior to those two races, Preece seemed destined for the title with four wins in the first 11 races.

THOMPSON READIES FOR WORLD SERIES IN OCTOBER

Thompson Speedway is a busy place these days as preparations are in full swing for the October 18th, 19th and 20th running of the annual Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Xtra Mart. This three-day racing spectacular is unlike anything else in the country. It attracts hundreds of race cars spread over fifteen different racing divisions.

Fans and competitors alike look forward to this annual fall tradition of three days of non-stop racing featuring an amazing variety of race cars. The incredible winged Super Modifieds of ISMA and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour top the list. However, when you add the Midgets of NEMA, the Valenti Modified Racing Series, all five of Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions, Granite State Pro Stocks, Pro 4 Modifieds, New England Race Trucks and outlaw Limited Sportsman, outlaw Street Stocks and outlaw Mini Stocks, fans have the most incredible lineup of racing action found anywhere.

Carey Wins Wild Late Model Feature In Final Thursday Night Thompson Thunder

Thompson, Conn: The 2013 season was celebrated in the final installment of Thursday Night Thompson Thunder (TNTT) with Keith Rocco, Rick Gentes, Cam McDermott, Steve Kenneway, and Eric Bourgeois earning division titles. NASCAR Whelen All American Series winners included Woody Pitkat in the Sunoco Modified division, Tom Carey, Jr. in the Late Models, Glenn Griswold in the Lite Modifieds, Scott Sundeen in the Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman division, and Eric Bourgeois in the Mini Stocks. Toby Wells took down the victory in the North East Mini Stock 20-lap feature.

Tom Carey, Jr. hasn’t won at Thompson Speedway since 2003 when he ran in the then-titled NASCAR Busch North Series. But Carey has a lot of winning left in him.
