The Valenti Modified Racing Series returns to the Thompson International Speedway this week for Thursday Night Thompson Thunder racing action. The popular VMRS will be making its second appearance of the year at Thompson.
Current VMRS points leader, Rowan Pennink, will be looking to repeat his winning performance of May 20th. Pennink’s May victory was not an easy one as he fought tooth and nail with Ted Christopher for the top spot until Christopher’s mount developed mechanical problems. Pennink was able to hold off late-race challenges from Richard Savary and Geoff Gernhard before he could claim the victory. The going won’t be any easier this week as the eventual winner of the 75-lap main event will have to hold off efforts of many of northeast’s best drivers.

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Models return to the Thompson International Speedway this Thursday, July 19, for their third appearance of the season. Running a limited schedule this season, the Super Late Models have provided fans with thrills, spills and just plain hard racing on Icebreaker weekend in April and during their second appearance in June.
Large numbers of Super Late Models turned out for their 50-lap feature events that offer additional money for the extra distance races. Derek Ramstrom bested the Icebreaker field when he crossed the finish line ahead of Mike O’Sullivan and Jim Banfield. Derek Ramstrom inherited the race lead on lap 62 of Thursday night’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North California Paints 75 at Thompson (CT.) International Speedway and the home track hero kept DJ Shaw and Travis Benjamin in his mirror to the checkers. Thompson regular Mike O’Sullivan raced home fourth and Cassius Clark survived a wild ride down the front stretch to finish fifth.
Ramstrom put himself in position to win early on, racing in the top five at the fastest track that PASS North visits. At the green it looked like Ben Rowe would finally toss that Gorilla off his back, racing past the all Thompson front row of Larry Gelinas and O’Sullivan. The RMR 4 was flying and the three time Thompson PASS winner was able to hold both Gelinas and Ted Christopher at bay. But on lap 47 the dreaded off song sound of a cylinder heading south suddenly appeared , drop kicking Rowe through the field until his engine finally gave up the ghost on lap 67.
