THOMPSON, Conn. – Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, finished eighth in the PASS North Series California Paints 75 at Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Conn., on Thursday, July 12. It was Doiron’s first career start at the largest track on the circuit. He avoided a multi-car incident in the final corner on the final lap to post his sixth Top-10 in eight starts this season. Doiron avoided disaster on Lap 4 when another car’s engine blew right in front of the No. 73 JBJ Machine/Scarborough Downs Chevrolet, forcing him to pit road to clear his windshield of debris and then restart at the rear of the field.

THE STORY
BERWICK, Maine – Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, will make the quick turnaround and head the PASS North Series California Paints 75 at Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Conn., on Thursday, July 12. Doiron has never competed at Thompson – at .625-miles and high-banked, the largest and fastest track on the series’ schedule. Doiron enters the week off a disappointing run at his home track of Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, but the No. 73 JBJ Machine/Scarborough Downs Chevrolet is still fourth overall in the PASS North Series standings with seven of 14 races remaining.

PASS SUPER LATE MODELS AND RUSTY WALLACE AT THOMPSON THIS THURSDAY

ThompsonThe Pro All Star Series 75 tops the bill this Thursday at the Thompson International Speedway. The Super Late Models of the PASS Tour have been a mainstay and a fan favorite at Thompson for several years. These extremely fast race cars traditionally offer an excellent race program of qualifying heat races and an edge-of-the seat feature races.

To make the program even more enjoyable, California Paints will bring their “Storm System” spokesman, Rusty Wallace, the 1989 Sprint Cup champion and soon-to-be inducted member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame to Thompson for a brief meet and greet session with fans and company employees. A few lucky fans will be given the opportunity to have Rusty answer their questions and he will also sign a limited number of autographs.

SUNOCO MODIFIEDS FACE TWIN FEATURES THIS WEEK AT THOMPSON

THOMPSON, CT. The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series feature division, the Sunoco Modifieds, face their biggest challenge of the season this week at the Thompson International Speedway. Twin 30-lap feature events are on the schedule for these extra fast, open wheel race cars.

With valuable points awarded in each of the two feature races, current track points leader, Ryan Preece, will look to extend his eight points advantage over Ted Christopher. Kerry Malone, Shawn Thibeault and John Catania are also in the points hunt as the track approaches the half way mark in this year’s race season.

Preece has visited victory lane three times this year with Christopher just one win behind. Keith Rocco and Woody Pitkat have also scored 2012 wins in this very competitive division. Drivers like Kerry Malone, John Catania and rookie Shawn Thibeault have also shown that they have race cars more than capable of claiming a win.

In addition to the exciting twin 30-lap features for the Sunoco Modifieds, fans will enjoy a midway display of Antique race cars along with some old time on-track activity from the antique racers on hand. It will be a trip down memory lane for many and a wonderful way for youngsters to learn a little about the history of stock car racing in New England.

Pitkat & Preece Share Sunoco Mod Twin Victories

O’Sullivan, Talman, Lowinski-Loh, Jr., Sundeen, Michalski & Cummins Also Victorious

Thompson International Speedway featured Twin 30 lap features for the Sunoco Modifieds on Thursday night. Woody Pitkat of Stafford, CT, made it two in a row in Sunoco Modified action in the night’s Modified the opener. In the second of the twins, Ryan Preece was declared the winner of a controversial feature event that saw Pitkat cross the checkers first. In a more conventional finish, it was Tommy O’Sullivan scoring the victory in the Late Models.

Troy Talman of Oxford, MA wired the field to secure the victory in Sunoco Lite Modified. Scott Sundeen continued his domination of the Limited Sportsman division with a win on Thursday night. John Lowinski-Loh, Jr. made it five consecutive wins in the TIS Modified division. Dave Trudeau of Mansfield, MA, earned top honors in the Mini Stocks. Bill Cummins of Clinton, MA, earned top honors in the Vintage Outlaw Modifieds.
