Cates Wins Big in Sunoco Modifieds; Scorzelli & Baxter Score Career Firsts

Gelinas, Coates & Tagg Also Winners

Thompson, CT (September 9, 2010): An unseasonably cold night set the stage from some heated racing action on Thursday Night at Thompson Speedway. Danny Cates of Chaplin, CT, battled back from adversity to score the victory in the Sunoco Modifieds. Larry Gelinas of Buxton, ME, dominated in Super Late Models to score his fourth victory of the 2010 season. Spirits were riding high as Mike Scorzelli of Malta, NY, and Chad Baxter of Pascoag, RI, scored career firsts in the Late Models and Mini Stocks respectively. Joe Coates of Eastford, CT, was tops in the Limited Sportsman division while Brian Tagg of Oxford, CT, wired the field for the TIS Modified victory.

THOMPSON, CT. The pressure mounts on race teams every September and this year is no exception. With the regular weekly racing season nearing an end, events held this month can make or break a division championship run for many race teams.

Thompson Speedway (September 2, 2010): For the third-time this season, the Thompson International Speedway hosted their Tour-Type Modified Shootout. Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT, added his name to the already impressive list of winners with his exciting victory on Thursday night. There was no shortage in intensity in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series with five winners posting victories.

Ramstrom Keeps Podium Streak Alive At Thompson

Derek Ramstrom of West Boylston, Mass., finished second in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Model feature at Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Conn., on Thursday night. The finish marked the fifth consecutive finish of third or better for Ramstrom, who has six wins on the season. Ramstrom started eighth, battled to crack the top-5 through the first half of the 30-lap event and eventually moved into second behind eventual winner Mike O’Sullivan. As he chases a second consecutive division championship, Ramstrom unofficially trails O’Sullivan by two points with three races remaining.

NASCAR TAKES ACTION AGAINST THOMPSON SPEEDWAY COMPETITORS

THOMPSON, CT. The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) has imposed an indefinite suspension from NASCAR competition on four drivers following an incident on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Thompson International Speedway. NASCAR is the sanctioning body for races at Thompson and NASCAR officials are in charge of the competition at the speedway. The official penalty notice from NASCAR cited the drivers for “Actions detrimental to stock car racing.”

Race drivers Fred Michalski of Dayville, CT, Scott and Trevor Michalski of South Killingly, CT and Scott Jassaume of Danielson, CT all received the same penalty from NASCAR. In addition, the Speedway has informed these drivers and Ruth Michalski of South Killingly, CT that they are no longer welcome on the property in and around the race track.
