OXFORD, Maine – The Renegades were the first to take to the 3/8th mile track for a ten lap feature event. Charlie Hall started on the front row in his new #3 car, and he jumped out to the lead. However, it was very short lived as Jamie Heath passed him just a lap later and ran away from the field to open up a straightaway length lead. Mark Turner and Gerard Cote moved past him as well to take over second and third. Turner had moved his way up through the pack well after making contact with Bill Grover, causing Grover’s #91 to spin sideways in turn three. Grover charged furiously through the field and caught back up to Turner with two laps to go. Going into turn four, he made heavy contact with Turner’s car causing him to slide high and back several spots. Jamie Heath crossed the line first, well ahead of Grover and Cote. However, Bill Grover would not hold his position as he was bumped back to the tail end of the lead lap for rough driving. Gerard Cote officially finished second with Turner, Charlie Hall, and Grover rounding out the top five. (more…)

OXFORD, Maine – The Acceleration Series was back on Wednesday night at Oxford Plains Speedway, and what a night of drama filled racing it was. Eight features saw last lap passes, wins starting from the back of the pack, and post-race disqualifications that turned the finishing order on it head.
The Renegades were the first to take to the track for their ten lap feature event. Opening night winner, Bill Grover bounced back from some tough luck in last week’s race, and took over the early lead after starting on the outside pole. Mark Turner and Jamie Heath filled in behind him as this quickly became a three car race. Grover, Turner, and Heath broke away from the pack and attempted to settle things amongst themselves, but all three cars appeared stalemated. Neither of the three competitors could pull alongside to attempt a pass, but none of them lost any ground either, and after the ten laps were up, Bill Grover still held the lead and took first place honors with Turner and Heath behind him.

Bell wins Spectator Drags

OXFORD, Maine – It was a wild night at Oxford Plains Speedway under a full moon as Motor Mayhem #2 sponsored by Allen’s Coffee Flavored Brandy came to the track.
The Spectator Drags were the first competition of the night. All cars must have an inspection sticker and be street legal, but they certainly performed like high-powered racing machines. The cars ranged from a VW Bus to a 1998 Pontiac Firebird, but at the end of the preliminaries, only Scott Merrill in a light blue 1994 Honda Accord and Thom Bell in a purple and black 1986 Ford Mustang remained. Bell won the coin toss and chose to start in the inside lane in the best two out of three championship round. He took the first race and then swept past Merrill on the backstretch to win round two and claim the first place trophy.
