Mike Hopkins of Hermon started the 50 lap Late Model feature on the pole and led 48 of the 50 laps to post a convincing win on Speedway 95’s season opening show Saturday night. Hopkins maintained his lead through 4 of the 5 caution flags, giving up only 2 laps to Andy Saunders of Ellsworth, who took the lead on laps 41 and 42 and finished a strong second. Josh St. Clair of Liberty finished in third, after coming from the back of the pack twice due to pit stops he took during caution periods. Ryan Deane of Winterport was the fourth place finisher, followed by 2010 Late Model Champion Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs in fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were John Kalel II of Orrington, Shane Clark of Winterport, Donny Blanchard of Bangor, Alex Waltz of Damariscotta and Greg Ellis of Hermon.
Sportsman division action saw Jeremy Glazier of Appleton take the win following a tight battle with Holden’s Steve Moulton, who finished second. Glazier and Moulton raced the first 7 laps side by side until Glazier slid high, forcing Moulton to lift and allowing Glazier to take the lead. The two were again together following a lap 13 caution, but Glazier was able to take the lead that time and hold it to the end. Moulton finished second, followed by Mike Overlock of Franklin, Gene Wasson of Greenbush and Doug Sinclair of Hermon. (more…)
The season opener was at Beech Ridge this weekend. We went down to practice on Friday and due to the pits being very wet all super late models were parked on the infield. First practice we found oil leak, second practice we found some problems with the transmission. (more…)
The Amsoil Nelcar Legends Tour returned the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway this past weekend along with the popular Pro All Stars Series, and as usual, the race did not disappoint. 21 Legends Cars took to the 3/8s flat oval this past Saturday in what was a race that was much different than the aggressive and slick surface at New Hampshire Motor Speedway just two weeks prior. With the PASS Pro Stocks, there was plenty of grip being put down on the racetrack and the drivers kept their cool and put on another great show for the fans. (more…)
Johnny Clark claims PASS North opening day thriller at Beech Ridge
Andy Shaw and Shane Tatro PASS Mod, Sportsman winners
Scarborough ME (4/30) Johnny Clark reclaimed the lead on lap 120 of Saturday’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North season opener at Scarborough Maine’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and the defending super late model champ survived several late race cautions to nab the 150 lap feature over a charging Donnie Whitten. Ben Rowe, Lonnie Sommerville and Shawn Turple rounded out the top five.
Clark led the most laps from his pole position start but the win was by no means easy. There were plenty of challengers up front. Travis Benjamin dogged the leader early on until mechanical issues sent him to the pit area. Benjamin returned to finish ninth. Derek Ramstrom was on fire too, taking the lead away from the defending series champ on lap 113.But problems sidelined Ramstrom too, possibly the result of contact with Clark on one of several tooth and nail restarts as the pair battled for the top spot. Ramstrom’s troubles gave Trevor Sanborn a shot at the lead and he took advantage, taking over the point for several laps before Clark powered by on a lap 120 restart. (more…)
