Spud Speedway’s a wild card in the PASS North title chase

Naples ME (8/17)The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) super late model and modified stars and travel to the crown of Maine this weekend for their first ever appearance at Caribou’s Spud Speedway, a new venue for the traveling circle track circus that carries serious points implications for the pair of drivers battling for the super late model title.

At Spud there won’t be any notes for the crew chiefs to fall back on, no on track experience for the drivers. So, the teams that get a handle on the quickest way around the speedway in the least amount of time will have a definite edge. As the points paying races wind down, success at Spud will be key to capturing the 2010 super late model Championship

Moulton on a roll: Third straight win stretches point lead for 20-year-old racer seeking third straight Unity Raceway Late Model track title

Unity, Maine – 20-year-old stock car driver Frank Moulton is getting hot. Moulton, of Burnham, won his third straight Late Model feature race Saturday night at Unity Raceway, extending his lead atop the point standings in the premiere class at the historic Waldo County oval track.

Moulton’s closest pursuer on this night was Skowhegan’s David Folsom I, a three-decade-plus motorsports competitor who had a son racing in this same main event several years older than the winner. Moulton, also seeking his third straight championship in the premiere racing division at Maine’s raciest third-mile oval, had never put together a three-race win streak before Saturday.

David Oliver and Jason Larrabee headline Beech Ridge winners.

By Dan Walker

Scarborough,Maine- Some of the best racing in it’s history continues to be displayed at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, and Saturday night was a continuation of that as David Oliver, Jason Larrabee, Brian Caswell and Ryan Phillips all scored feature race victories. The NASCAR Pro Series 40 lap main event turned out to be a spectacular race as no less than 4 drivers battled for the win. Charlie Colby led the opening 3 laps before giving way to Chris Thorne. Thorne who was looking for his first Beech Ridge win, stayed in front as Scott Moore and David Oliver applied pressure to him. The caution flag waved on lap 24 but on the restart Thorne shot back to the lead with Moore, Oliver and Bill Rodgers all right behind. The final caution on lap 28 set the stage for the dazzling finish as Thorne again went back in front with Oliver second. Thorne stayed in the high groove and Oliver took the low groove and for the next 10 laps ran side by side for the lead with Bill Rodgers and Dan McKeage side by side for third and fourth right behind them. Thorne led lap 38 and Oliver led lap 39 setting the stage for a dash to the checkered flag. Exiting the final turn on the final lap, Thorne didn’t get the grip and Oliver did as he got to the finish line just inches ahead of Thorne for the win. Bill Rodgers nosed out Dan McKeage for third as McKeage extended his point lead with fourth. Mike Rowe took the fifth position. (more…)

JOSH ST CLAIR WINS AGAIN IN 95 LATE MODELS

Josh St. Clair of Liberty is emerging as the man to beat in the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95, as he is always up front and more often than not the winner if he finishes a race. Saturday night was no exception as St. Clair drove from his 11th place starting position to the front, taking the lead away from Hermon’s Dale Swoboda on the 29th lap of the 35 lap event. St. Clair was aided by one caution that bunched the field up, but he also had to be patient, as he sat behind a battle for position between Dean Smart of Bradley and Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs, as they went side by side for what were the fourth and fifth positions at the time. Once Seekins finally got by Smart, St. Clair took to the bottom groove and moved past Shane Clark of Winterport, then leader Dale Swoboda. Swoboda later failed an engine compression test in post-race inspection and was disqualified, placing Clark in the second finishing spot. Seekins beat Smart in the battle for what turned out to be the third spot, with Smart finishing in fourth. Bangor’s Doug Day was fifth. (more…)
