Picard stops Fuller streak at Unity Raceway

Unity, Maine — Ajay Picard of Palmyra padded his point lead in the Unity Raceway championship standings, racing to his first victory of the season in the 35-lap Late Model main event, topping the stock car racing card at Unity Raceway on Saturday night.

Picard got to the front of the pack quickly and managed to hold off former Unity Raceway Pro Stock champion Dean Fuller of Albion, who was seeking his third straight main event triumph. Fuller had his hands full, claiming runner-up honors after a good battle with Sidney’s Kevin Douglass, who ended up in third position aboard the John Clark 21. Danny Smart of West Buxton and Dan Trask of Chelsea rounded out the top five.

Second straight Unity Raceway Late Model win for Dean Fuller

Unity, Maine — Dean Fuller of Albion won his second straight Late Model feature race Saturday night at Unity Raceway, in just his second start of the 2012 season.

Fuller, a champion in the old Pro Stock class at Unity a decade ago, roared from the back of the field twice, aided in part by a restart incident that forced race leader (and point leader) Ajay Picard of Palmyra to the pit area.

Fuller roared by Waldoboro’s Will Collins shortly thereafter, then outran Burnham’s Brian Whitney to the checkered flag. Collins held on for a third-place finish. Picard rebounded to claim a fourth-place finish, in front of Chelsea’s Dan Trask. Picard won the heat race.

Fred Ashmore Jr. of Hancock outdueled Hudson’s Donny Silva following a lap 24 restart to take the lead on lap 25 of the 35 lap Coca-Cola of New England Series race for the Sport-Four Division at Speedway 95 Saturday night. Silva had led from the drop of the green and through a lap 5 restart until the yellow flew again on lap 24 for a solo spin by Glenburn’s D.C. Alexander. On the restart, Ashmore hung with Silva and made the pass on the 25th lap that he held until the checkers flew. Silva also fought off a hard challenge from 14 year old Emma Libby of Glenburn as she tried to take the second spot from him over the final five laps. Silva hung on for second with Libby taking third, her first top three finish in her rookie year in the division. Reid Lanpher Wins at Unity Raceway

14 year old Reid Lanpher of Manchester was not very happy after being told by NELCAR officials that he needed to start from the back of the Amsoil Legends Car Tour Race at Unity Speedway Saturday night . Lanpher had started 5th in his heat and finished 2nd so was expecting to start 2nd on the inside row for the feature. He had forgot that the last time the tour visited Unity he brought home a then career best 2nd place feature. The NELCAR rules state that the top 3 finishers in the feature start from the back when the tour returns to the track. So what did Lanpher do? He hoped in his 7 year old Legends car (that was the oldest on the track) and drove it to the front to pick up his 2nd win on the tour this summer. Last month, Lanpher became the 16 year old tours youngest feature winner ever and made history at NHMS as its youngest non kart winner ever.

Dean Fuller, returns, conquers Unity Raceway Late Models

Unity, Maine – Dean Fuller of Albion made his first start of the season in impressive fashion, claiming victory in the 35-lap Late Model feature race, topping the stock car racing card at Unity Raceway on Saturday night.

Fuller, a champion in the ultra-quick Pro Stock class that once topped the weekly card at Maine’s Toughest Racing Oval, has made only a handful of appearances behind the wheel since that class was axed from the weekly program some seven years ago, brought the car out a couple of weeks earlier with six-time Pro All Stars series champion Johnny Clark of Farmingdale behind the wheel, and they scored a big victory in the Big John Phippen Memorial Race.
