JIM CARR TAKES TRUCK SERIES EVENT AT SPEEDWAY 95

Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton continued his domination of the pick up truck division at Speedway 95 on Wednesday night as he wired the 25 lap series feature. Carr started on the pole for the event by virtue of winning the qualifying race, and quickly moved to the front. Peter Drake of Corinth, back from a two week absence while a new motor was installed in his truck hung close to Carr throughout the race, but couldn’t muster enough speed to make a pass. Drake finished in second, followed by Dana Harlow of Bucksport who outdueled David Gray of Orrington over the final 10 laps for the third position. Gray finished in fourth after surviving an earlier attack from Anthony Moore, who was disqualified from the event for his actions in front of the grandstand. HOPKINS MAKES IT 5 FOR 5 AT SPEEDWAY 95

Hermon’s Mike Hopkins continued his domination of the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 Saturday night as he won his fifth feature in a row and is now 5 for 5 for the season. Hopkins started fifth in the 11 car field and by lap 10 was on the point and driving away. Smart finished in the runner up spot. Pole Sitter Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs finished a distant third with Winterport’s Shane Clark finishing fourth, ahead of Ryan Deane, also from Winterport, who finished fifth. CHELSEA YOUNG TAKES LADIES DIVISION SERIES RACE AT “95”

Wacky Wednesday lived up to it’s name this week as two car fires and a rollover added to the excitement at Speedway 95 Wednesday night. Chelsea Young of Winterport led from the green to the checkers in the Ladies series race that was stopped on lap 13 when a car driven by Maria Miranda blew the motor and erupted in flames. As she brought the car to a stop and hopped out on the front stretch, flagman Jordan Harnish was first on the scene with a fire extinguisher and doused the oil fed flames. Miranda was done for the night, but Amy Houde wasn’t as she challenged Young for the lead on the restart and continued her pursuit, falling short and settling for a second place finish. Mika Wilson of Chelsea was third, followed by Amanda Batchelder of Fairfield fourth and Danielle Beale of Hampden in fifth.

News Release Speedway 95 6/11/11
By Bill DaButler

(Hermon, ME) Speedway 95 rolled out the green flag for another evening of racing sponsored by your locally owned Napa stores on Saturday, June 11th at 7pm, with the second race in the Dysart’s late model series, along with the regular card of Saturday night division.

The Dysart’s Late Models earned their first caution of the race in the first lap, when three potential race leaders ran into trouble between turns on and two, Ryan Deane of Winterport, Dean Smart of Bradley, and Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, all of whom ran strongly in the qualifying heat races spun out. When the action resumed, the next 19 laps of the 50 lap feature went caution free until Deane experienced problems forcing a second caution and a trip to his pit stall to try to tune his ride back in. Up until the 42nd lap, the battle for the second spot was the hot topic, as Shane Clark of Winterport and Josh St. Clair battled for second. While the pair battled for second, the race leader Mike Hopkins of Hermon held a substantial lead in the top spot. Clark completed the pass just as the third caution came out. At the restart, the top three spots remained unchanged to the checkers, with Hopkins taking the win. In victory lane, St. Clair acknowledged that his car was being to fade in the final laps, “He (Clark) was just faster.” (more…)
