Speedway95ANDREW MCLAUGHLIN TAKES 95 SEASON OPENER

Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington won the Dysart’s Late Model feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night after a side by side battle with 2014 Late Model Champion Brenton Parritt that ended on lap 15 when Parritt slowed and headed for the pit. McLaughlin then easily rode to victory with 13 year old rookie Dylan Street of Old Town coming home second in his first ride in the speedway’s top division. Bradley Smart of Bradley finished third, and Parritt came back out on the final lap of the race to finish fourth. Only four cars started the 25 lap event that was reduced from the scheduled 40 due to the low car count.

In the Darling’s Ford Sportsman, Shane Tatro of Holden took the lead for good on the 21st lap of the 25 lap feature when Kris Matchett of Skowhegan, who had been swapping the lead with Tatro all race long, suddenly slowed and left the race with mechanical issues. Dean Clements of Brooks moved up to second and stayed on Tatro’s bumper for the final four laps, placing second at the checkers. Rookie Trey Brown of Winterport finished third in his first outing in the division with Matchett getting credit for a fourth place finish. Mike Overlock of Franklin finished fifth, several laps off the pace.

KURT HEWINS AND BRENTON PARRITT TAKE 95 SPECIALS

fasjfasfasKurt Hewins of Leeds and Brenton Parritt of Steuben each won the extended length feature events in their respective divisions at Speedway 95 Sunday afternoon on Veteran’s Remembrance week-end at the Speedway, but in both cases, the win came after a late race caution and a short sprint to the checkers.
In the Ikey Dorr Memorial 100 lap Strictly Street event, Hewins and Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs dominated the top spot in the 31 car starting field for the entire distance. Hewins took off from the outside pole and led laps 1-16 that were marred with early race cautions. On lap 17, Seekins took over the top spot and held it through several more caution periods until a caution on lap 57. On that restart, Hewins wrestled the lead from Seekins and held it until the yellow flew again on lap 97, setting up a three lap dash for the $3000 first prize. Hewins and Seekins battled side by side to the end, where Hewins, an Oxford Plains Speedway regular, beat the Speedway 95 veteran by half a car length. Seekins finished second, taking home $2000 for his efforts, with 2014 Speedway 95 Strictly Street champion Alex Berry of Harrington taking home $1000 for his third place finish. Rounding out the top five were 2013 Ikey Dorr race winner Maurice Young of Chelsea in fourth and Glenburn’s Jordan Pearson finishing fifth. Burnham’s Chris King finished sixth, seventh was Bimbo Look of Jonesport, eighth place went to Bradley Norris of Ellsworth, ninth was Kris Matchett of Skowhegan and tenth spot was taken by Geoffrey Rollins of Groton Mass.

BOSWORTH AND BERRY SHARE SPEEDWAY 95 SPOTLIGHT

466Jayson Bosworth of Cornville and Alex Berry of Harrington both went into their respective series finales leading the series points battles, and both came out with a win in the night’s feature race and the series title for their respective divisions. Bosworth entered the night tied for first place in the Street Landscaping Series for the Coca-Cola Sport-Fours with his brother Brad Bosworth, also of Cornville, but a blown engine in the qualifier put Brad out of contention for the night and put Jayson in position to take the series title. In the 35 lap feature, Jayson led the first 12 laps, but gave the lead up to Skowhegan’s Zach Audet, who boxed him in behind a lapped car and took the lead on lap 13. Audet then led until lap 34 when Bosworth executed a perfect bump and run in turn four, which slid Audet up the track, allowing Bosworth to duck under on the inside groove and take the lead for the final lap. Audet finished second with Old Town’s Dylan Street taking the third spot. Fourth went to Ed Archer Jr. of Clinton with Lewis Batchelder of Dixmont taking fifth.
