Seekonk Speedway Fast Friday Results

seekonkNick Lascoula, Dave Lougee and TJ Morsehead win Phil’s Propane Triple Crown events. John Robidoux and Devin Miranda also win.

Nick Lascoula picked up another win in the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends and clinched the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Championship for the division, winning two out of the three events. The win also solidifies his place at the top of the 2013 championship standings.

Branden Martinez set the early pace in the 30 lap main event, leading Chris Robbins until Lascoula moved into second by the fifth lap. By lap 9, the Abington driver was in his familiar place, leading the field. Martinez settled into second until his engine expired just shy of the halfway point.

Joey Parker moved into the runner up spot on the restart, and the three subsequent cautions, but could not unseat the points leader, and settled for second. TJ Thompson made a rare appearance and finished third, with Chris Robbins and Wyatt Alexander fifth in his first run at Seekonk.

Seekonk Awaits Valenti Modified Racing Series Saturday

VMRSCanaan, NH. – The Valenti Modified Racing Series heads to Seekonk Speedway, Seekonk, MA., on Saturday, August 17, the next stop on the series 10th anniversary tour. The season long heated battle for the series championship continues and a strong field of cars is expected at the famed oval.

Since the start of the season, the point’s battle has been the best ever and with eight races remaining on the series schedule; it’s promises to get better.

Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA, currently the series point leader, headlines the list of entries for Saturday’s 100-lap green flag race.

Pennink leads Tommy Barrett Jr, of Millis, Ma., by a mere 4-points heading to Seekonk. Pennink and Barrett will be two drivers’ fans can expect to be chasing the checkered flag.

Seekonk Speedway results from 8/10

Dave Darling wins Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Championship. Gerry DeGasparre Jr, John Paiva and Gerard Berthelette win mains.

Dave Darling took over from Tom Scully Jr with one lap remaining in the 75 lap Pro Stock Phil’s Propane Triple Crown Championship, and held on for the final 1/3 mile to pick up his fifth win of the season.

Bob Hussey and Mike Brightman battled for the lead early on before Brightman took over at the top of the leader board. Brightman held on to the top spot through the one-third mark, with Tom Scully Jr and Ryan Vanasse second and third. They ran that way until Brightman spun. On the restart with 40 laps remaining, Scully, Vanasse, Darling and Craig Weinstein set up for a 40 lap battle for the win. Darling moved past Vanasse on the restart, and started to put pressure on Scully. Darling darted from the inside and the outside trying to find a way by.

With about 20 laps remaining, Darling went to the outside and pressured Scully hard, trying to get the youngster to make a mistake. But there were no mistakes to capitalize on this time. Scully continued to keep Darling on the outside as Vanasse ran under Darling, the three cars under a blanket. With less than five laps remaining, the defending champion reached deep with his Bristol Toyota Scion Camry, and found something more that he needed. As they came across the stripe under the white flag, Darling had nosed ahead, and followed through turns one and two to hang on for the exciting win by .003 seconds over Scully Jr. Ryan Vanasse was third, with Craig Weinstein and Dick Houlihan fourth and fifth.

Fred Astle picked up his second win of the season in the 40 lap Pro Stock feature. After waiting out a 90 minute rain delay, the Pro Stocks finally hit the speedway with 23 cars in tow. Mike Brightman jumped out front early before the first caution came out, eliminating Ryan Vanasse and Bob Tripp. Brightman and Kyle Casper took off on the restart, and Casper started putting heavy pressure on the Acushnet native right away. On lap 9, there was contact, with Brightman spinning out of the lead. Casper was penalized to the rear.

Once back underway, Astle jumped out front with Tom Scully Jr trying to hold off Dick Houlihan to no avail. Houly moved into second with Scully third. The trio continued to fight for the lead for the next several laps before the former 2 time champion moved to the outside to pressure Astle. With Houlihan working the outside, Scully tried several appetites to squeeze under Astle, but could not find the room. Over the final 15 plus laps, Houlihan and Astle races wheel to wheel for the lead, with Dick officially leading lap 33. Astle battled back and held of Houly at the stripe for the win. Houlihan was second, with Scully Jr, Kevin Casper and Dave Darling rounding out the top five.

Joey Parker, Jamie Salley, Devin Miranda, Shelby Donovan and Branden Lillie become new 2013 Fast Friday winners

seekonk“It’s not the way I wanted to win my first feature,” Joey Parker told track announcer Kyle Coppola in his victory interview at the stripe following his lap with the checkered flag in hand. “But I guess I’ll take it.” He had stubbornly pursued Nick Lascoula after leading the first eight circuits in a race that ran caution free for the full 25 laps. At the checkers, Lascoula had led Parker over the line one car ahead. But he had been called for a bad start and track officials penalized Lascoula a single place in the finishing stats, elevating Parker to Victory Lane following the fierce battle. Al Wisialko, Brandon Martinez and Matthew Carpenter completed the top five.

Jamie Salley jumped past polesitter Ed Gould out of turn two on the initial lap of the 30-lap Pure Stocks feature, to grab the lead. Gould flew into a stall and fell rapidly to seventh place over the next two laps before he could recover. Meanwhile, Ed Flanagan grappled onto Salley’s bumper with Bill Doyle all over his back and John Robidoux treating Doyle to the same. Jesse Melberg had come from seventh to fifth to pursue them, got by Robidoux for fourth, and went outside of Doyle for a shot at third. With two to go, Salley was leading a tight parade toward the finish. Salley roared home to the flying checkers, just .281 seconds ahead of the tenacious Doyle. Melberg was another .6 back followed by Robidoux and Heroux.

Dave Darling, Tyler Thompson, Scott Dion and Chris DeMoura win Everett’s Auto Parts features at Seekonk

seekonkDave Darling picked up his fourth win of the season, holding on through a flurry of cautions throughout the 75 lap Phil’s Propane Triple Crown race. Front row starters Tom Scully Sr and Ken Spencer swapped the lead back and forth through the first twenty five laps of the event.

With 1/3 of the race completed, Darling had moved into second, and used a restart to power past Spencer for the lead. Spencer fell back into second, with Dick Houlihan, Mike Brightman and Ryan Vanasse rounding out the top five. Darling held the lead at the 50 lap mark, with Vanasse in second, trying to chase him down. Several times, Vanasse would pressure Darling for the lead, but the defending champion would not waver.

A flurry of late race restarts slowed the pace, but Darling continued to keep the pressure behind him, picking up the win. Dick Houlihan slid past Vanasse on the final laps for second, with Vanasse, Tom Scully Jr and Fred Astle rounding out the top five.
