Seekonk Speedway Saturday 8/31 Results

seekonkDave Darling, Bobby Pelland III, Rick Martin and Ed Gannon pick up Saturday ARC wins.

Track Champ and points leader Dave Darling won once again, following the simple rule of staying out of trouble.

Darling took over the lead from Kenny Spencer at midrace, on a lap 19 restart. They had dueled on a lap 18 restart and again following cautions on laps 20, 22, 24, 29 and 30. Darling was able to hold on to the lead each time. The final ten laps ran caution free and Darling led Spencer over the stripe. Dick Houlihan, Fred Astle and Kevin Casper followed.

Signs for the race were bad from the first billowing of the green, as Kevin Folan and Mike Brightman were together and up into the wall before the starting line. They had started side-by-side and something had knocked Folan loose and into Brightman and they locked together in a slide into the wall at the base of the starter’s platform. Brightman pulled away and drove smoking to the pits. Folan, with his right front corner collapsed, had to be hauled to the pits before completing a lap. Brightman was able to return, but Bill Antonellis, who had been collected in the fray, was also out without finishing a circuit.

seekonkAl Wisialko picks up first career Nick’s Pit Stop Legends win. Melberg, Pelletier, Bowser and Morsehead celebrate wins.

Albert Wisialko took his first career win in Legends, working the right choice while approaching lapped traffic. Wisialko and TJ Thompson were dueling over the lead on lap 18 of the 25-lap feature, when they encountered John Bellucci as they entered lap four. As they pulled along behind, entering turn four, Thompson wavered in his decision on how to go around the lapped vehicle. Wisialko decided and dived for the bottom of the track. Thompson seemed to make a move to go around on the high side, then saw the room that Wisialko had left and turned down. He nearly collided with Bellucci and wavered getting underneath. This was all Wisialko needed to hammer down and pull into the lead on his own. Thompson pursued, with the field of Chris Robbins, Andrew Carpenter and Jesse Jakubajtys following.

1) Al Wisialko 2) TJ Thompson 3) Chris Robbins 4) Andy Carpenter 5) Jesse Jakubajtys 6) Curt Snow 7) John Bellucci 8) Nick Lascoula 9) Joe Putnam 10) Joey Parker 11) Matt Carpenter

Ryan Vanasse, Gerry DeGasparre, Rick Martin and Bob Bettencourt pick up Seekonk checkers

seekonkRyan Vanasse sat in third spot with two laps remaining, but used a three wide move to pass Kyle Casper and Dave Darling to pick up his second win of the season. Kyle Casper jumped out front and took off from Mike Brightman to set the pace. Brightman had plenty of opportunity through restarts to squeeze past Casper, but struggled to stay with the Somerset Motor Cars Chevy. Vanasse and Brightman traded the second position back and forth through several restarts, but there was no getting to Casper.

Darling was able to move into second with six laps remaining, before a caution came out for fluid on the track. Once cleaned up, Darling and Casper raced wheel to wheel for the lead, with Darling edging out Casper on the 38th lap. Vanasse was looking, and as they came off the fourth corner, Casper drifted high, opening up the bottom lane. The trio raced three wide into the first corner, with Vanasse beating Darling into turn three. Fred Astle, who started scratch after qualifying problems, edged Casper for third. Brightman rounded out the top five.

Earl Curtin inherits Pure Stock Phil’s Propane Triple Crown win. Tyler Boudreau and Joey Lembo break through. Lascoula and Rolando win.

Earl Curtin III inherited the Phil’s Propane Triple Crown win after apparent winner Jesse Melberg failed post-race tech. Danny Massa led the first lap before Jay Fortin took over at the top of the leader board. Fortin set the pace until the tenth circuit when Curtin took over the lead.

With a dozen laps remaining, Melberg, who started ninth, worked his way to the outside and wrestled the lead away from Curtin. As the laps wore down, last week’s winner, John Robidoux closed in on Curtin, and over the final half dozen laps, the pair raced side by side, swapping the eventual winner’s position back and forth. Curtin held on by a nose, with Ed Flanagan, Jamie Salley and Dan Massa fourth and fifth.

seekonkTodd Annarummo picks up Seekonk VMRS 100 lap main. Dylan Estrella, Paul Lallier and Scott Dion also win Bradford Motor Annex & Racing Guys night.

Second generation racer Todd Annarummo returned to his home track and picked up his first win of the season with the Valenti Modified Racing Series. Rob Goodenough was the early pace setter, leading the first ten circuits until championship contender Richard Savary moved out front. Savary was able to open some distance from the field until Annarummo moved into second and hunted down the leader.

At the 1/3 mark of the century grind, Todd moved into the lead, not to relinquish it again. But it wasn’t one without a fight. Late in the race, Steve Masse, who started deep in the field moved into second by lap 80, and closed in on Todd with 15 laps remaining. With a couple of restarts over the final laps, Masse raced side by side with Todd, but could not overtake the Swansea, MA native and settled for second. Savary, Tommy Barrett and Louie Mechalides rounded out the top five.

VMRSSeekonk, MA – Long-time racer Vinnie Annarummo once declared in victory lane following a Valenti Modified Racing Series win, “This Is My Home.” Son Todd showed Saturday night he could also lay claim that Seekonk Speedway is his home turf too. The Swansea, MA, driver nabbed his first victory of the season winning the ‘Valenti Auto Group 100’ at the historic Massachusetts oval. The victory was Annarummo’s second series win.

Annarummo started fourth in a 24-car field, moved into third in the early going behind leaders Rob Goodenough, of Swanzey, NH, and Richard Savary, of Canton, MA, then took the top spot from Savary on lap 31.

Chris Pasteryak, of Lisbon, CT, chased the leader, Savary took his turn for 38-laps, then a hard charging Steven Masse, of Bellingham, MA, tried his best to the checkered flag. Masse lead lap-88 only to be passed by a more dominant Annarummo.
