With the 2013 schedule nearing completion, Seekonk Speedway has announced that the 9th Annual Open Wheel Wednesday will be held on Wednesday, July 17th. This has become one of the most anticipated dates on the calendar for any open wheel fan and competitor.
The Modified Madness portion of this event has produces some of the most spectacular races in recent New England history, starting with the last lap pass by Donny Lia to pick up the first $10,000 winner prize. With a green, white, checkered finish, Lia squeezed past Ted Christopher and went on to carry the checkered flag, in a race that the fans talked about for years.
The 2012 event still has people buzzing about the side by side clinic put on by Ryan Preece and eventual winner Matt Hirschman. Matt became the only driver to win this prestigious event twice. Additional winners include Doug Coby, Chris Pasteryak, Kirk Alexander, Vinny and Todd Annarummo and Lia. (more…)

In the 100 lap marathon known as the Pro Stock main, W. Boylston’s Derek Ramstrom went on and introduces himself to Seekonk Speedway Victory Lane at the historic 1/3 mile oval. Dave Darling jumped from his third starting position into the lead before lap one was complete, and held on through the first 27 laps until he ran over some debris under caution and cut down a right rear tire, handing the lead over to Ramstrom. Once out front, Ramstrom, who was biding his time over the early laps, never looked back.
With Derek setting the pace, the action was going on behind him. Craig Weinstein ran second for much of the middle portion of the event, with Mike Brightman behind. They ran that way until Darling worked his way back through the field into second on the 53rd lap. He shadowed the leader, but could not get close enough to make a challenge. Over the last quarter of the event, Dick Houlihan was able to make up for some lost time, and moved into the second spot, where he followed Ramstrom across the line. Darling finished third with Brightman and Elmer Wing fourth and fifth.

Fred Astle, Bill Bernard, Rick Martin and Rey Lovelace win the battles. Dave Darling, Gerry DeGasparre Jr, Mike Cavallaro and Paul Lallier win the wars at Seekonk Speedway.
Kyle Casper jumped out to the front of the 18 car Pro Stock field and set the pace for the first 33 laps before the first caution came out. Over those 33 laps, the Somerset native had his hands full with 2 time former champion Dick Houlihan. Tom Scully Sr ran third for the first 30 laps before spinning in turn two. Tom was able to continue without losing any laps, but was out of the hunt for a win.
Once back underway, Houlihan worked the outside and edged ahead of Casper before the next caution came out. His lead however would be short lived, as Astle nudged under Houly and took over the top of the leaderboard for the final three laps. Houlihan held off a hard charging Mike Brightman for second. Ryan Vanasse and Dave Darling were fourth and fifth. With his fifth place finish, Dave Darling is the 2012 Pro Stock Champion, his third with car owner Gary Johnson and crew chief Ronnie Pond.

Melberg and Buffington claim titles and wins. Shepard, Belcher and Barboza win while McDonald, Blais and Boudreau clinch Seekonk championships.
Jesse Melberg picked up his sixth win of the 2012 season at Seekonk Speedway, closing out the Fast Friday series with his first career championship in the Pure Stocks. Tim Demarderosian took the lead on the opening circuit of the 25 lap main, and held on for the first few circuits until he was caught up in an incident, eliminating him, Earl Curtin, John Robidoux and Bill Doyle.
Amy Arsenault took over at the helm, and set the pace for the half dozen laps while Melberg worked his way 3 wide to the battle at the top of the leader board. When they crossed the line for lap 10, the Champion found himself out front, and from there, never backed down. Amy held on to the second position until Chris Lima moved past with a handful of laps remaining. Arsenault wound up third, with Randy Moretti and Jamie Salley fourth and fifth.
