Seekonk Speedway honors 2013 champions and more

Seekonk Speedway closed the book on the 2013 season on Saturday, January 18, 2014, with the 68th annual Awards and Dinner Celebration at the Venus DeMilo in Swansea, MA. Several hundred men and women packed the Athena rooms to honor the 9 champions.

The evening started out by announcing the 2014 inductees onto the Seekonk Speedway, 97.7 WPRO 630 Wall of Fame. Based off of over 2500 votes, four names will be inducted on Saturday, May 31, 2014. Long time competitor Billy Clarke was honored as an inductee, as was former two-time Pro Stock Champion Don Dionne, long time official Ron Manfredo, and three time and former Pro Stock Champ Wayne Dion. The four were introduced to the capacity crowd among a standing ovation.

Seekonk Speedway is set to induct first nominees onto Wall of Fame

seekonkSeekonk Speedway is set to induct the first group onto the Seekonk Speedway/630 WPRO am Wall of Fame. In a fan vote done from January through March, eight individuals have been elected to represent over 60 years of racing.

On Saturday, July 13, the founder of Seekonk Speedway, D. Anthony Venditti, the Godfather, will join his wife, the First Lady of NE Motorsports as the first to rightfully take their place, at the top of the Wall of Fame.

D. Anthony wasn’t afraid to take on an issue that would benefit the overall good for the sport. He was an innovator, a pioneer in the sport that is rarely seen. He created A.R.C., which stands for Auto Racing Club, to compete with the many groups that were out there competing. He created the Pro Stocks in 1977, which continues to lead the action at Seekonk.

Dave Darling doubles up, Bill Bernard blasts, Paul Lallier lasts & Branden Dion discovers Victory Lane.

Dave Darling used a mid race restart to find himself leading the pack and went on to pick up his second win of the season. Darling started 16 again, avoiding several incidents in front of him. By lap ten, he had cracked the top five, and was sitting second on a lap 17 restart when leader Mike Brightman broke and axle, allowing the defending champion to move his Bristol Toyota Scion Camry to the top of the leader board. Once out front, Darling never looked back, starting the season undefeated in the first two events.

Seekonk Speedway honors 2012 Champions

On Saturday night, over 700 friends and family members got together at the Venus de Milo in Swansea to celebrate and

honor Seekonk Speedway’s 2012 Champions in their annual awards celebration.

Taking home the top honors was Dave Darling of Rehoboth, and his car owner Gary Johnson of Pawtucket, as they
picked up their third Pro Stock Championship honors. The Bristol Toyota Scion team carried 4 wins on the season, and
did not finish outside of the top five all season. All three championships have come with crew chief Ronnie Pond.

Dick Benoit was named Rookie of the Year. Ryan Vanasse was honored as Most Improved Driver in the Pro Stocks.

Seekonk Speedway announces 2013 schedule

As the weather hits the first major cold snap of the winter months, the staff has been working diligently to put together a 50 event schedule for the 2013 calendar.

The racing season kicks into high gear on Sunday, May 5th with full slate of action, featuring the A.R.C. Pro Stocks, Late Models, Street Stocks and Sport Trucks. The Pure Stocks and Nick’s Pit Stop Legends will join the celebration as well on the 68th season opener.
