Todd Stone pads point lead with 1st win at Airborne

Todd Stone of Middlebury, Vt worked under Kris Vernold on lap 18 and led the rest of the way to earn his first Modified win of the season on NYSCOPBA night at Airborne Saturday. Stone, driving the G. Stone Motors 1X, began the night as the point leader and started 14th.

Patrick Dupree, helped by the fourth and final restart on lap 21, shot past Vernold on the backstretch to claim second when green flag racing resumed, but he was unable to reel Stone in. Aaron Bartemy came up through the field after starting 25th, to finish fourth, just ahead of George Foley in fifth. Foley, a three-time feature winner got turned around on lap five and had to pit for a tire.

Craig Bushey Claims VT State Championship Event #2 at Devil’s Bowl

West Haven, VT – Craig Bushey of Fairfax, VT dominated the early stages of the “I Am Vermont Strong 100” at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, June 15. Bushey started in the 4th position and took the lead from outside pole sitter Brent Dragon on lap 10. Following the first caution with just ten laps complete, the event saw just one more caution over the next 83 circuits.

Bushey created a sizable lead as he worked his way through heavy lapped traffic and had all but the top five in the field lapped before the third caution of the event came on lap 93. Dragon had also worked his way through the lapped traffic and reached Bushey’s bumper just before the lap 93 caution. The two appeared to be setup for a final seven lap dash to the checkers.

Friday night, June 15th. Providing the fireworks on the track were Ted
Christopher, who picked up his second win of the season in the 40-lap SK
Modified® feature, Woody Pitkat, who picked up his first win of the season
in the 30-lap Late Model feature, Jay Goff, who picked up his first career
victory in the 20-lap SK Light feature, Josh Wood, who took a thrilling
fourth win of the season with a last lap pass in the 20-lap Ltd. Late Model
feature, and Austin Bessette, who scored his first career victory in the
15-lap DARE Stock feature.

Kid’s Night Approaches at Thunder Road

Barre, VT – On Sunday, June 17, Barre’s Thunder Road will celebrate Harvest Equipment night with door to door racing from the Late Models, Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks with a special twist.

 The stars and cars of Thunder Road will be in attendance early to give kids free rides around the high banks starting at 1:15pm. Also, all Scouts and Little League participants in uniform, as well as participants in the Race to Read program who have shown progress on their reading lists, will get into the show for free. There will also be Kid’s Trike Races for ages 3-4 and 5-6 during intermission. It will surely be a night to remember for young race fans.

Three-Peat for Johnny Clark at Speedway 660

PASS NorthSpeedway 660 has become Johnny Clark’s home away from home. The Hallowell, Maine driver led the field to the checkered flag, winning his 3rd straight Pro All Star Series 200 in the Geary Woods. The 2010 and 2011 race winner dominated the second half of Sunday’s race to take the victory in car 54.

“I love this place and we took a big swing at the car at the mid-race break and the boys in the crew did an awesome job” said Clark. “We’ll definitely be back here for SpeedWeekend and try to become the first driver to win three Auto Value 250 races.”

Travis Benjamin, from Morrill, Maine, stayed with Clark for much of the final 100 laps, but was just not able to get around the race winner. Cassius Clark, from Skowhegan, Maine beat Johnny Clark on an exciting last lap pass in their heat race, but settled for third in the feature. D.J. Shaw, from Center Conway, New Hampshire won the other qualifying heat.
