ACT officials have announced a 14-race schedule for the 2013 American Canadian Tour season at eleven different Northeast short tracks. The schedule will include three new additions to the Tour schedule. There will also be three more non-point counting special events during the 2013 campaign.
The Tour will return to 2012 tracks Lee USA Speedway, Thunder Road, Devil’s Bowl Speedway, Airborne Speedway, White Mountain Motorsports Park, and Beech Ridge Speedway in 2013. A visit to Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH is planned for a 150-lap event on Sunday, June 2nd, and will mark the first time ACT has raced there since 2004. The American Canadian Tour will also head to Canaan Fair Speedway on Saturday, June 15th for the first time since 2005, and has set a date for Star Speedway on Saturday, July 6, last visited in 2003. The future of Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s stock car racing protégés is proving to be rather bright. A talented crop of rookie drivers joined the track’s weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions in 2012 and left a significant mark on the record books.
Joey “Fireball” Roberts of Georgia, VT ran to the Rookie of the Year title in Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s headline Bond Auto Parts Modified class. After a decade in full-fender racecars, the third-generation racer made his open-wheel Modified debut at the 101.5 “The Fox” Spring Green on May 5 in the No. 50x Vermont Life Safety/Mansfield Heliflight-sponsored Bicknell. Roberts won his qualifying heat and finished fifth in the main event, the first of an overachieving 11 top-five finishes in 19 feature starts. Roberts took his first feature win on August 3 and finished fifth in overall championship standings. (more…)
The Thompson International Speedway is preparing to honor those who excelled in the racing competition during the 2012 season. The track’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series featured seven different divisions of race cars competing at the historic speedway and the efforts of top finishing race teams will be rewarded on Friday, December 14 and Saturday, December 15 . These events will be held at the Raceway Restaurant and Lounge on the grounds of the Thompson Speedway.
Because of the large number of competitors that typically attend the track’s annual awards banquets, two nights have been set aside to accommodate all of those expected to be part of the gala celebrations. Friday’s banquet will spotlight the efforts of competitors in the track’s Late Model, Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman and Monster Mini Stock divisions. Saturday’s gathering will focus on the Sunoco Modifieds, Super Late Models, Thompson Modifieds and the LKQ/Keystone Lite Modifieds. (more…)
NASCAR releases full schedule, will race at NHMS on July 13
LOUDON, N.H. (Nov. 13, 2012) – The snow has yet to accumulate, but eight short months from today, NASCAR will officially be back at “The Magic Mile.” NASCAR announced the 2013 schedule for its Nationwide Series today, a slate that once again includes New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the 24th straight year. As a part of the Sprint Cup Series weekend, NASCAR’s premier subdivision will roar around the 1.058-mile oval on Saturday, July 13.
“Having the Nationwide Series provides us with a tremendous anchor for what is sure to be another super Saturday lineup of racing,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of the speedway. “We recognize the importance of the Nationwide Series as a launching pad to the Sprint Cup Series, so it’s a great thrill to have the stars of tomorrow battling it out at ‘The Magic Mile.’ ” (more…)
Ryan Preece saw an opportunity he simply couldn’t pass up.
Preece, of Berlin, Conn., was in the right spot when the leaders wrecked ahead of him with four laps remaining Saturday night at Caraway Speedway, inheriting the lead he would not relinquish on the ensuing restart to win the 10th annual Colors Edge John Blewett III North-South Shootout presented by PPG. Preece held off Chuck Hossfeld and Matt Hirschman to win the 125-lap Tour-Type Modified feature event. (more…)
