George Foley of Vermontville took the lead on lap nine of the 30-lap Modified feature at Airborne Speedway Saturday night and went on to become the first two-time winner of the season.
Foley’s Shamrock Bar& Grill/Pulsifer Logging No. 34 was Chevy-powered after having Ford engine problems a week ago. Adam Bartemy, who stuck with Foley during the middle third of the race, yielded two spots in the final laps and finished 4th.
Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake got up for second. Ernie’s Discount Tools Modified point leader Pat McGrail of Candiac, QC, was third. Todd Ormsby of Ausable Forks rounded out the top five.

Aaron Bartemy of Champlain bested a robust 28-car field of DIRTcar Modifieds and became the fourth different Modified feature winner in four weeks Saturday at Airborne Speedway.
Bartemy used the outside lane to move from sixth to second on a restart after a red flag incident on lap 7 of the 30-lap X-PLO/E-Z Store main event.
While the field was lining up after a caution flag three laps later, race leader Dan Brown pitted with engine trouble, putting Bartemy on the point. After a dozen laps of close pursuit from Patrick Dupree and Pat McGrail, Bartemy extended his lead to five car-lengths as the race remained under green.

It’s more laps, more money and more competition for Airborne’s J&S Steel Limited Late Models this Saturday night, May 12 when TD Bank presents the opening round of the six-race USA/Canada Master Series.
Defending track champion Robin Wood, last week’s feature winner Jamy Begor, Shawn Duquette and Bucko Branham are among the Airborne frontrunners who will test the best from Autodrome St-Eustache in a 50-lap, $1,000-to-win event.
Branham, the winningest Airborne driver of the last decade, came out on top when the Canadian teams made their first-ever appearance on the Plattsburgh half-mile last fall.

George Foley of Vermontville beat Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT to the finish line by a car-length to win the DIRTcar Modified 30-lap main event on his sponsor’s night (Loreman’s Screen Printing) at Airborne Speedway Saturday.
Foley, driving the Shamrock Bar & Grill/Pulsifer Logging Ford-powered No. 34, took the lead for keeps on lap 2, but Stone stayed close for the first 27 laps. No sooner had Foley opened up some daylight on Stone and third-place Pat McGrail then the yellow came out on lap 29.

Patrick Dupree saved the best for last, passing Todd Stone for the lead on lap 48 of the 50-lap Ernie’s Discount Tools Modified feature and holding on for a one car-length victory at Airborne Speedway Sunday.
Stone, who had led from the outset through three restarts, was sizing up a backmarker that was racing at speed entering the third turn, when Dupree dove underneath both cars and took over first place.
“That was a workout,” Dupree said. “I was sitting outside the top ten for over half the race. I was trying to save my tires, but then I was wondering if I could ever get close to the front.”

Airborne Speedway has merged its two 4-cylinder racing divisions into one for the 2012 season and is counting on a highly competitive season that produces a new, first-time, Busch Mini Modified track champion.
The Mini Modified throne has been vacated by 2011 champion Speedy Bresette of Plattsburgh, who is moving up to the Adirondack Water Sportsman Modified division.
This year, the Mini Modified car count is on the rise because of new teams forming and the inclusion of the former Bomber class. Johnmichael Bresette of Ausable Forks, the 2011 Bomber champion, will also compete as a Sportsman Modified this season.
