The 2012 ACT Tour season opened with its traditional Governors Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway with hometown driver Eddie MacDonald surviving a spin while leading to finish seventh.
The Hancock Electric/Grimm Construction Chevy started twelfth in the 27 car field by virtue of winning the heat race from the outside pole to post a +1. Cars are placed on the grid using the plus/minus system used in the ACT Tour.
The Rowley, Mass. driver was at the wheel of a brand new car and was pleased with the results saying, “The car was very fast and drove great. It had a few quirks to it but that is to be expected with a new car. Overall though, we are really happy with the way it drove. Even after the spin, the car was still fast and we were able to make it back through the field twice.”

LEE, N.H. – Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., held off a strong charge from a hometown driver over the final few laps on Sunday afternoon, and the eight-time series champion opened the ACT Late Model Tour season with a victory in the NH Governor’s Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway.
The win was the second in a row for RPM Motorsports in this very race.
“(Former track champion Wayne Helliwell) was right on my rear bumper. Wayne was all over me,” said Hoar, who earned his 34th career ACT win. “He’s very, very good. We had very equal cars, but I got into a real defensive mode. He got into me a couple of times, but overall he ran me clean. He was just trying to get me to make a mistake.

Lee, NH – Eight-time American Canadian Tour Late Model Champion Brian Hoar of Williston, VT claimed his second straight NH Governor’s Cup 150 season opener at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH on Sunday, April 15. Hoar escaped a late race assault from multi-time Lee USA Speedway Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH to earn the win.
Jeff Taylor of Farmington, ME led early in the event after starting on the pole with a +6 in ACT’s plus/minus handicap system. Helliwell worked his way from the fifth starting position to take over the lead on lap 10 and appeared dominant for the next 60 laps. However, Ben Rowe of Turner, ME came from the 10th starting position to run down Helliwell just before the halfway mark. Rowe also appeared to have the race in hand until Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, MA took over the lead with 118 laps complete.
Hoar and Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH came flying through the pack after pitting around lap 117 for fresh tires. Polewarczyk caught MacDonald on lap 130 but got into the back of him coming off turn two sending them both to the rear. That brought out the fourth caution of the event and handed Hoar, who came from the 9th starting spot, the lead.
