With a slingshot move past Sprint Cup teammate Kyle Busch five laps into overtime, Joey Logano won Saturday afternoon’s Aaron’s 312 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.
In a race that saw Eric McClure injured and Danica Patrick using her Chevrolet for payback, Logano beat Busch to the finish line by .034 seconds to win his second NNS race of the season and the 11th of his career.
Defending series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr. ran third and took over the points lead from Elliott Sadler. Cole Whitt came home fourth, followed by his JR Motorsports teammate and boss Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Middlebury Hotshoe Bates Sets Sights on NASCAR National Championship
Teenager’s long racing season begins Sunday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
Most teenagers are just beginning to learn how to drive on the street. Not Hunter Bates – he’s racing toward a NASCAR national championship.
In between classes at Middlebury (VT) Union High School, where he is an Honor Roll student, Bates will make his first attempt at the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national title. His season begins on Sunday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT with the 101.5 “The Fox” Spring Green.
“We’re going for it,” Bates said with a grin. “Hopefully we can get some wins together and make a run at the national championship. I think it’s going to be fun.” (more…)
Brett Moffitt edged Chase Elliott in a drag race to the line following a green-white-checkered finish to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East Blue Ox 100 Thursday at Richmond International Raceway.
A solid eighth place finish for Eddie MacDonald in the K&N Pro Series East Blue Ox 100 at Richmond International Raceway successfully capped an earlier day of frustration for both driver and crew. With the run, the Grimm Construction Chevy gained five positions in the point’s race into ninth.
Rain postponed the scheduled practice time one hour, so the two scheduled practices were blended into one. After changing spark plugs at the start of practice, the car returned to the track and quickly discovered the car would just not turn in the corners on the banked three-quarters of a mile oval. After numerous adjustments the car was still not right with MacDonald saying, “The car was so tight in the center of the turn the nose would just push up the track so I couldn’t get back to the throttle. We made a lot of changes but nothing seemed to work. It was a pretty frustrating practice. Driving that track is nothing like Loudon or Dover so it was hard to get a handle on it. We knew we had to make changes for qualifying and they did help.” (more…)
Pulling away from Dale Earnhardt Jr. after a restart with eight laps left in Saturday night’s Capital City 400 at Richmond International Raceway, Kyle Busch streaked to his fourth straight victory in the spring race at the .75-mile track.
The win was Busch’s first of the season and the 24th of his career, tying him with his brother, 2004 NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Kurt Busch, for 26th all-time.
