Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour: John Peters Wiscasset Speedway Race Report
WISCASSET, Maine – John Peters of Westbrook, Maine, finished seventh in the season-opening 25-lap feature event for the Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour at Wiscasset Speedway in Wiscasset, Maine, on Saturday, April 6. It was Peters’ first career start at Wiscasset in a Legends race sanctioned by NELCAR and marked his second Top-10 finish in as many NELCAR races dating back to last season. Track position played a huge role in the race’s outcome on the chilly afternoon, as Peters joined others in the struggle to find grip on a green race track that hasn’t been used regularly in several seasons.

Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour: John Peters Wiscasset Speedway Race Preview
THE STORY
WESTBROOK, Maine – John Peters of Westbrook, Maine, begins his season when the Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour kicks off its 2013 campaign with a 25-lap feature event at the Wiscasset Speedway in Wiscasset, Maine, on Saturday, April 6. Peters, who made his series debut last September at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, will attempt to earn Rookie of the Year honors in his first full season on Tour. Last year, Peters entered an exhibition race at Wiscasset in the No. 51 Digby’s Variety/Cash For Clunkers Coupe and finished fifth in that event.

WESTBROOK, Maine – John Peters isn’t one to rest on his laurels, despite a couple of notable accomplishments already in his young racing career.
Peters, 16, of Westbrook, Maine, will compete on the Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour in 2013, one season removed from becoming the youngest champion in Beech Ridge Motor Speedway’s 65-year history and making his NELCAR debut at the track in September.
“There’s the Facebook page with the old Beech Ridge pictures and stuff on it,” said Peters, who won the track’s Beetle Bug JV championship in his rookie season. “You look at all the things that are on there, and I try and think to myself, ‘How do I fit into all of that?’ Putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, it’s pretty neat and it’s started to sink in. In 2012 Mathew Bourgoine won the Amsoil NELCAR Championship as well as the TNT Championship. So what is it like to win the championship, “Its Awesome!! It was a goal I set for myself when I started racing Legends, and now that I have done it. It feels awesome!!”
In the off season Bourgoine has been enjoying the winter sports and, finding new business adventures. “I went to some car shows, did some snowmobiling, and did a little ice fishing. I also have been getting things going on a new business called Bourgoine Designs. We’ll be doing T-shirts, stickers, and a bunch of stuff!!” (more…)
As a Nor’ Easter blankets New England the NELCAR “Winter Storm” is ready for the 2013 race season. Dan Winter and some of his fellow drivers from the NELCAR Legends Tour were on hand for the “Racin’ Preview” in Portland, Maine.
Though the Amsoil NELCAR legends haven’t been racing the last few months, the drivers have been busy getting ready for Opening Day at Wiscasset Speedway on April 6th. “This offseason we’ve been mostly getting the cars cleaned up and ready for the 2013 season.” (more…)
