After a long and harsh winter, local auto racing fans came out in force to witness Opening Night of the 67th season at Rockford Speedway. The enthusiastic crowd was treated to some great mid-April weather and terrific racing all night long. When the final checkered flag flew on Mountain Dew Kickstart’s 67th NASCAR Season Opener, one driver had captured his first Saturday night feature win, one former champion started his season on top, one familiar face found himself in a familiar place and one driver passed almost one car per lap on his way to victory.

It wasn’t always in the plans for Casey Johnson to race Saturday night at Rockford Speedway. The 24 year old from Edgerton Wisconsin made the last minute trip to northern Illinois pay off, winning the 30 lap Stanley Steemer NASCAR Late Model feature event. Johnson started the race from the inside of the second row, following ‘Insane’ Wayne Freimund and Curt Tillman to the green flag. Freimund and Tillman dueled for the top spot early, with Freimund finally grinding ahead of the pack on lap two. Johnson worked past Tillman at the same time and immediately set his sights on Freimund. Johnson, the 2013 Big 8 Series champion, wasted little time working past Freimund, inheriting the lead on lap 4.

Shaw Makes Last Lap Pass To Win 9th Annual Easter Bunny 150 At Hickory

500web-PASS-2006-MasterHICKORY, NC (April 20) – New Hampsire’s DJ Shaw parlayed an aggressive move on the final lap into the win in the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model 9th Annual Easter Bunny 150 Sunday afternoon at Hickory Motor Speedway. Shaw and PASS South points leader Tyler Church made contact entering turn three allowing Shaw to move by and claim his first PASS South Super Late Model win. The race was delayed for nearly 24 hours after torrential rains drenched the Southeast on Saturday.

“I got a little more aggressive there than usual, but I lost this race last year with Preston [Peltier] for letting him be aggressive with me,” said Shaw after his first career Easter Bunny 150 triumph. “It’s great to win at a historic place like Hickory and I just have to thank the fans and PASS for getting it in today and supporting us on Easter.”

NASCAR-Whelen-All-American-SeriesWaterford, CT (April 19, 2014) – Waterford Speedbowl returned to racing action Saturday night with an action packed six division race program. Nichole Morgillo led the field to the green flag with her pole starting position as Gallup lined up to her outside. The two drag raced on the opening lap side-by-side with Gallup leading by a nose at the completion of lap-1.
