ACT Late Model Tour: Taylor Martin
New Hampshire Motor Speedway Race Report
LOUDON, N.H. – Taylor Martin of Windham, N.H., finished 26th in the fifth annual Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H., on Saturday, September 21. Martin, who was making just her second career Late Model start, started 30th by virtue of the ACT Late Model Tour’s unique handicapping system for the starting grid in the event. She avoided a multi-car accident on the frontstretch in the early laps of the 50-lap race, and she later avoided disaster when a car directly in front of her began spraying oil on the track. Martin’s day got off to an auspicious start with an overheating problem in practice, but that was quickly repaired and the No. 20 Matt Brown Truck Repair Ford returned to the track during the session. Martin capped off her history-making day, in which she became the first driver to compete in two Invitational events on the same day at NHMS, by finishing third in the Granite State Legends Car Series Gifford’s Ice Cream 25 on the mini-oval.

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour rolls into Airborne Speedway this Saturday, September 28 for the Fall Foliage 200 season finale. The 2013 ACT Championship battle has been narrowed down to three contenders. Defending ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. leads the way over Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. and Jimmy Hebert, who are both eager to take home their first championship title.
Helliwell and his E-Keys 4 Cars Ford claimed the 2012 ACT Championship with a win in the Fall Foliage 200 last season. This year he has to fend off Hudson, NH’s Polewarczyk, who claimed the biggest win of 2013 in the ACT International 500 at Airborne back in July. Breakout star, Hebert is also in the mix with two ACT wins of his own already this year.

Grimes, IA – Brett Moffitt, driver of the Hattori Racing Enterprises (HRE) No. 11 NISCO Toyota Camry, arrived in Loudon, New Hampshire for the North American Power 100 in second place in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East season point standings. He was faced with a 40 point deficit to the point leader and had only a 13 point cushion over the third place driver. Moffitt and the No. 11 HRE Toyota team waged a hard-fought two-day battle against a very ill-handling race car at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS). Still, Moffitt left NHMS with his point deficit cut to 23 and with a more comfortable 32 point cushion over the third place driver in the standings.
Not long after the team unloaded at the 1.058 mile asphalt oval known as “The Magic Mile’, it became apparent that the car lacked speed and was probably not a top 10 car. Out of a field of 31 entries, Moffitt’s practice speed of 124.977 (30.476 seconds) put him into 20th place. He did not attempt a mock qualifying run, and after practice had ended, Moffitt’s Twitter account described the team as “struggling, but still hoping to find something that will help.”

NAPLES, ME (September 24) – After a hard fought season battling fellow competitors and pesky weather, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) will crown its first champions of the year this weekend at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine. It will be the final weekend of racing for New England’s premier short trackers as the championships will be decided for the PASS North Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds and PASS Sportsman. The points are extremely tight heading to Oxford, particularly in the Super Late Model and Modified divisions.
The PASS North Super Late Model championship is down to three drivers realistically, points leader Cassius Clark, Joey Doiron, and DJ Shaw. Defending PASS North champion and 2013 TD Bank 250 winner Travis Benjamin sits fourth in points, still with a mathematical shot at another championship as well.

Eddie MacDonald continued his dominance at the Magic Mile in Loudon, N.H. with his third victory in the American Canadian Tour’s 5th Annual Bond Auto 50 lap event. The Rowley, Mass. driver won the first ever ACT race at NHMS and has now won three of the five contests held on the September NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend schedule. Unfortunately, Eddie Mac was not as fortunate in the K&N Pro Series East race when he hit the wall in turn one while leading the race when the right side tire blew apart.
“We won one and wrecked one,” said MacDonald in victory lane after the impressive ACT win. “I really wanted to win this for a third time. Rollie (LaChance) and the entire team love running here in front of all our fans. It is a great win but the day is also bittersweet. The K&N car is in pretty bad shape and we have to evaluate it to see if it can be fixed. It is our new car this year and is my favorite car. So it is really disappointing to have a blown tire ruin our chances to win the race and destroy the car. I feel bad for team owner Rob Grimm and the rest of the team that worked so hard on it from day one.”

ACT Late Model Tour: Emily Packard
New Hampshire Motor Speedway Race Report
LOUDON, N.H. – Emily Packard of East Montpelier, Vt., finished 42nd in the fifth annual Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H., on Saturday, September 21, after being collected in an accident involving other drivers just four laps into the event. Packard was among the 15 fastest cars in the 43-car field during final practice earlier in the day, and she started 32nd after ACT’s unique handicapping system for the event. She had already started gaining positions in the opening laps of the 50-lap race, but two cars tangled in a three-wide race on the frontstretch of the 1.058-mile oval. Packard was caught up in it, and a broken radiator hose ultimately kept the No. 9x Northstar Fireworks/Berlin Optical Expressions Ford from returning to the event.
