Motor Mile Speedway Race Report

RADFORD, Va. – Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine, finished 10th in the second half of the Dirty Dozen Cup Pine Ridge Nursery Twin 125s at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., on Saturday, August 10. Lanpher finished 11th in the first 125-lap Late Model Stock event, forced to battle for track position after qualifying 12th out of 21 cars in a light mist in the No. 8 JR Motorsports Chevrolet. The 15-year-old JR Motorsports development driver fought through a loose-handling car caused by an oil leak in the rear end in the first event, and in the second event he battled a number of top NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship contenders to post the Top-10 finish.

Bill Davis Pockets $3,000 in M&M Beverage Enduro

Barre, VT – Bill Davis of Monson, MA won his second career M&M Beverage Enduro and pocketed a cool $3,000 at Barre’s Thunder Road on Sunday, August 11. Davis was the only competitor to complete all 200 laps of the thrashing and crashing event.

Don “Dipstick” Tofani led for a good portion of the race before having to pit out of the lead. He recovered to take second with 198 laps completed. Andrew Botala, Mike Cormier, and Nick Gilcris all completed 196 laps and completed the top five. Kelly Miller, Jr., Brandon Gray, Jason Gray, Dan Rae, and Beverly Menard rounded out the top ten.

Greg Adams, Jr. claimed his fifth win of the season in the Allen Lumber Street Stocks 50-lap special. He bested Tommy Smith and Garry Bashaw in the top three. Jadon Perry and Dean Switser, Jr. scored top fives. Jamie Davis, point leader Bunker Hodgdon, Kyle Streeter, Kevin Dodge and Troy Kingsbury completed the top ten.

Star Speedway up next for Granite State Pro Stocks

granite state prostock seriesOn Saturday night, August 17th, the Granite State Pro Stocks return to the Star Speedway for their first visit of the season. This is the seventh event of eleven on the 2013 schedule for the GSPSS.

Matt Frahm is the defending winner of this event, and with two wins on the season, is one of the favorites going into this event. Matt has two wins on the season, and sits fifth in the championship standings.

Jeremy Davis leads the points standings going into the Star Speedway, and has one win so far, that coming at his home track of Canaan Speedway on Saturday, May 4th, his first of the series. Mike O’Sullivan was runner-up in August, 2012, but a win on July 7th at Hudson International Speedway put him right back into the championship standings, as he sits only 6 points behind Davis. Barry Gray, coming off his first win of the season at Monadnock Speedway, moved into third in points, with Larry Gelinas and Frahm fourth and fifth.

Rocco Rocks At Waterford; Scores Second VMRS Win

Waterford, CT. – Meriden, CT’s, Keith Rocco drove to victory Saturday night, August 10, winning the 100-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series feature at Waterford Speedbowl, Waterford. CT.

The win was Rocco’s second VMRS victory in 10 starts. His first was two years ago at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Rocco started fifth in a 26-car field, took the lead on lap eight from Chris Pasteryak, of Lisbon, CT., and was never headed. Rocco twice developed full straightaway leads only to be slowed by caution flags for minor spins or crashes.

Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA., made another late race charge from his 17th starting spot to finish runner-up.

Pasteryak enjoyed another strong third place finish. The two-time series champion never ran outside the top five.

Tommy Barrett, of Millis, MA, and 40-year veteran Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, VT, rounded out the top five finish. Barrett started sixth, and Jarvis came from 20th.

Jean-François Déry Earns St-Eustache 200 Victory

ACT American Canadian TourSt-Eustache, QC – Jean-François Déry of Quebec held off hometown favorite Patrick Laperle to take his second win of the season in the St-Eustache 200 at Autodrome St-Eustache on Saturday, August 10. Déry now has nine career Série ACT wins.

The race began with a major wreck on lap 1 of the 200 lap event. The wreck resulted in a red flag period of five minutes to allow drivers a chance to fix their automobiles. When the race got back underway Dany Trepanier took the point until lap 25 when Jonathan Bouvrette took over the lead.

Déry finally got to the front on lap 42 to take the lead. He battled with Laperle for the remainder of the event. Déry took over the lead for good and didn’t look back after lap 129. Laperle and Trepanier completed the podium. They were chased to the line by current Serie ACT point leader Patrick Cliche and Bouvrette. The top ten was rounded out with Etienne Cliche, Patrick Hamel, Donald Theetge, Stephane Descoste and rookie Christopher Bedard.

Slaunwhite Wins Emotional Atlantic Cat 250 At Scotia Speedworld

Photo Credit: McCarthy Photographic(Halifax, NS, August 10, 2013) – It was an emotional night for Terence Bay’s Craig Slaunwhite as he drove his #99 Halifax Glass and Mirror Chevrolet Impala to victory in the 14th Annual Atlantic CAT 250 for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour. This is Slaunwhite’s first Atlantic CAT 250 victory and had to battle another hometown favorite in Enfield’s Shawn Turple for the victory. Turple brought his Chevrolet home in second, followed by Fredericton, NB’s Shawn Tucker, Turner, Maine’s Ben Rowe and Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island’s Darren MacKinnon.

Rowe began his afternoon with setting the pace in the Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials with a 14.310 second lap. After a redraw for the King Freight Lines Dash for Cash, it was Slaunwhite who went to victory lane in the qualifier for the top eight Time Trial competitors and earned the right to start the 250 lap feature from the pole position. Donald Chisholm (Antigonish) and Exide Batteries Rookie of the Race Dylan Blenkhorn (Truro) took home Dartmouth Dodge Heat Races. Slaunwhite led 165 laps to take the Linde Most Laps Led Award. Springvale, PE’s Greg Proude gained 13 positions and finished in 6th position to earn the Absolute Traffic Hard Charger Award. Three leaders swapped the lead six times in a 250-lap race which featured eight caution periods.
